Lions just made a huge trade up to #12 and potentially snipe WR Jameson Williams. The Texans response? A trade back from #13 to the Eagles. Getting picks 15, 124, 162, & 166 in return. Lots of ammo for later tonight and/or tomorrow?

Moves and countermoves...

“He was a pretty good tackle, but he’s an outstanding guard. I don’t think his feet are good enough to play tackle at a high level, but he’s powerful, is very good with his hands and is a road-grader in the run game. He was their most consistent guy up front.”

“He looked better on film than he did in our game. He understands angles and leverage well. Playing tackle, he’s not used to that much space. I thought he was more of a Day 2 guy.”

“He was really special in 2020. They had a better line then, and sometimes it’s about who’s playing next to you. He has very good awareness — seeing twists, recognizing pre-snap movement, seeing it when it’s coming. His cleats are always in the dirt. I think he’s elite. He reminds me of (Bills Pro Bowler) Dion Dawkins.”

So, to recap, the Texans got a guy whose performance after his first collegiate season “fell off a cliff” and another guy who is considered a “second day pick.”

That sounds about right. Can’t wait to see how many practice steps each of these guys takes once Quasimodo slaps a fitbit on them.

Remaining picks after Day 1:
Round 2 (37)
Round 3 (68)
Round 3 (80)
Round 4 (107)
Round 4 (108)
Round 4 (124)
Round 5 (162)
Round 5 (166)
Round 5 (170)
Round 6 (205)
Round 6 (207)

Imo, there is no way the Texans make all these selections. They either bundle some Day 3 picks to move up in either/both the 2nd & 3rd rounds or they kick some picks to 2023 (where, granted, they already have a lot of picks next year, too).

Texans select Baylor SS Jalen Pitre from Baylor... kinda love this pick.

Though it seems possible the Jets sniped them by trading up to 36 to select RB Breece Hall. Kinda glad they did if that's the case. RBs can be had later, and the Texans have plenty of ammo to move up for the one they want.

Pitre ought to be player. Big secondary upgrade.

And there it is... the Texans trade up to #44 to select Alabama WR John Metchie.

Browns take 68, 108, & 124 off their hands.

Seven remaining picks:

Round 3 (80)
Round 4 (107)
Round 5 (162)
Round 5 (166)
Round 5 (170)
Round 6 (205)
Round 6 (207)

Cost them a pair of 4ths to move up 24 picks from the 3rd to the 2nd round. Glad they bundled... might've been nice to pair a 5th with that 4th though.

chuck will love this... Metchie is recovering from a torn ACL in the SEC championship game in December, and it is uncertain he will be healed in time for training camp, but things sounds optimistic with his recovery thus far.

You know what, in general I’m very pro Alabama WRs, very pro most any Alabama player who plays something other than quarterback, actually. And since we’re in no particular hurry around here, who cares? That other guy’s not going to play at all this year and someone traded up for him, too.

I’m just hoping with the third round pick they can snag that punter. That would be amazing.

So, one more pick tonight (#80) unless they put together another bundle....

So far, two picks on offense, two picks for the defense.

Have no idea what they do with the round 5's and round 6's. If they keep them all, surely a couple will hit, eh?
