The offense might have found something. The defense needs to toss a shutout if there is any chance left.....

Why do we consistently have the worst secondary in the league?
BTW I like Kareem at safety |

Belichicks team was in a charitible mood letting us back in the game with
the muffed punt reception and the DB who had a couple penalties late. Wow what a stinker. |

Today showed why a young QB with 6 career games who hasn't played in 10 months might need preseason reps. Watson looked lost until the 2nd half. Hopefully he shook the rust off and is ready to be Deshaun Watson next week.
Clearly JJ took a half to get going too. I guess if you're going to give away a game by not being game ready week 1, then it's good to give away one you probably weren't going to win anyways. |

Folks here overly worked on O'Brien not calling a 1st half timeout on a questionable catch by Gronkowski.
What we really need to be worked up about is the decision to punt with 4 minutes left in the game down by two scores. WTF? Pats returner bailed O'Brien out by muffing that punt return, but what a horrendous decision by O'Brien. So bad that it takes precendent over the asinine playcalling for most of the first three quarters, then twice late... the first down run call and the QB draw before the last Texans TD cost the team well over a minute of clock when every second there for a comeback was precious. Watson had a rusty first game back, forcing action and generally being a little too amped, tunnel vision. And Kevin Johnson was predictably the weakest link... the Pats are good at helping you determine your weaknesses. But this was one of O'Brien's worst games... and he's had some stinkers. I'll say what's encouraging though... the Texans had a shot to win a game on the road against a perennial Super Bowl contender when they were flat out terrible for almost three quarters. Long season... stay healthy and this is a playoff team once again. |

barrett and Keith separately and differently hit upon the thing that annoys me most about this game - the team literally punted it away. That is a loser's mantality.
Does anyone think Bill Parcells would have gone into a week one thinking fk it, we can't win in that stadium, let's not worry too much about it? Come on. I guess that's what annoys me most about the franchise. I'm accustomed to seeing that sort of cynical resignation from the owner. I'm not so accustomed to seeing it from the football operations guys. Also, speaking of, it looked like McNeck wasn't at the game. Let's hope he was somewhere watching it on TV and listening hard to Romo carving up his idiot coach whom he just extended for seventeen years. McNeck does love him some Romo. If you want to know, just ask AJ Bouye. Innyhoo, before barrett gets on me, yes, I was always in the BOB camp when it came to BOB versus whatever that idiot's name was. Jones? Something like that. My previously held position does not exclude my participation in the 'BOB is an idiot and should go somewhere else' usenet group, so thank you for your kind understanding. |

It goes in the books as 27-20 but it wasn't that close. What was kind of frustrating was the Pats were making errors, too and the Texans couldn't take advantage. The Texans couldn't let that happen - they just had to outdo them..... I still think they could've beat these guys. It was the Patriot system that beat the Texan "system"....
---------------------------------------------------------------------- I was impressed with Tony Romo - he's very bright. I think it is safe to say his football IQ is more advanced than anything we have on our coaching staff. He'd make an excellent offensive coordinator, IMO - the type that calls the shots from up in a booth... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Along with everyone else, seems JJ Watt needed to knock off the rust. He got better as the game went on. I noticed one play where he shot off the line so quickly that I thought he was offsides... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I think Deshaun Watson needs to just relax and play football. He was not himself (have a snickers). I wonder if he's had people telling him he's going to be the next big thing in the NFL during his rehab.... Probably a little pampered through OTA's and preseason..... He complained of "low energy". If I've got him figured correctly, he'll straighten it out, make the adjustments and get his swag back..... |

In other news Ryan Fitzpatrick was the best QB in the NFL yesterday and carved up a Super Bowl contender. Crazy.

Besides Deshaun Watson, there were a number of QB's that had unexpectedly bad Week 1 outings.... Garoppolo had probably his worst start - 3 INT's. Derek Carr and Matt Stafford didn't look so hot last night.... Keenum threw for 3 TD's and got the win but he also threw 3 INT's.
I think it's like Steve Young said on MNF last night - "September is the new preseason". Wonder why the Pats gave their starters so many snaps in preseason? The chatter I'm hearing is that BB didn't like getting slapped around by the Chiefs in Week 1 last year.... Maybe that'll start a new trend... use preseason to get ready for the real thing.... |

Our team looked entirely unprepared and you could absolutely say September is the new preseason for us. I think that's awful coaching. Each of the 16 games counts the same and we're unlikely to make the playoffs by more than a game when all is said and done. Lucky for us Tennessee and Indy looked awful. Jacksonville won but looked awful on offense. The AFC South had crawled up past terrible to mediocre, but it looks like it's slid right back down to competing for the worst division in football. |
