TEXANS draft Grades
Well, early, but Texans getting high marks early.
From Washington Post AFC South Houston Texans Analysis: The trade up to get Deshaun Watson with the 12th choice was bold and fully justified. Maybe Tom Savage will remain the starter at QB entering the season. Maybe not. But the Texans are, in many ways, a Super Bowl-ready team and they needed another potentially attractive option at QB. Watson gives them that. Second-round LB Zach Cunningham and third-round RB D’Onta Foreman also could help. Grade: A

Houston Texans: A Eric Gay/AP SI STAFF Saturday April 29th, 2017 It is far from unanimous that Deshaun Watson is the answer at QB in Houston. It says here that he has a better shot at filling that role than perhaps any other quarterback has in the Texans’ brief history. He was worth the high cost of going up from No. 25 to 12 to get him (a 2018 first-rounder). Scoring LB Zach Cunningham at pick 57 was a welcome bonus after the Round 1 dramatics—he can handle a heavy snap count immediately, with Brian Cushing a candidate to lose time. RB D’Onta Foreman (No. 89) will make Lamar Miller’s life easier as the No. 1 option. If OT Julién Davenport (No. 130) can make incremental progress the next couple seasons, Houston could have a starting left tackle waiting when Duane Brown, 32 in August, gets to the end of his career.

Houston Texans Draft picks: Deshaun Watson (No. 12 overall), Zach Cunningham (No. 57 overall), D'Onta Foreman (No. 89 overall), Julie'n Davenport (No. 130 overall), Carlos Watkins (No. 142 overall), Treston Decoud (No. 169 overall), Kyle Fuller (No. 243) Day 1 grade: A Day 2 grade: A Day 3 grade: A Overall grade: A The skinny: Deshaun Watson was an excellent college quarterback, and the Texans are hoping he becomes a great NFL quarterback. I'm with Bill O'Brien on this one, even though Houston parted with a 2018 first-round pick in trade up to get him. With Houston's defense playing well, they needed a leader and playmaker to get the offense rolling. Houston found the inside linebacker of the future with Zach Cunningham, a Daryl Washington-type defender who should be around for a while. They needed to find a running back, so they headed to Austin to pick up D'Onta Foreman, who could be a force if his weight is under control. The Texans need immediate offensive line help. Davenport might be a year or two away from that, but it was a solid value in the fourth round. Carlos Watkins is a talented defensive lineman with a good motor, and could play five-technique as well as inside for Houston. The Texans found an interesting long, physical corner in Treston Decoud; they desired depth at corner coming into the event.

Video - Draft recap and Superbowl futures. TRT = 8:07 Summary: Texans get a mention as the only team to improve their Superbowl odds after the draft. Also, team wins numbers are out - Titans (9.5 wins) and Colts (9 wins) projected to have more wins than the Texans (8.5 wins)....
