Hard Knocks Possibility

Seems the Bills and Redskins want out, so the Texans may be the pick this season.

A team source said the Redskins did not want to appear on the show – a stance they have long taken – and were not one of the finalists.

Bills source confirms that the team is still not interested in doing Hard Knocks this summer.

I wonder how many teams would beg out of this if there were some legit cash compensation for the hassle? Would think cash-poor teams like the Bills and attention-loving teams like the Redskins would whore themselves out if that were the case.

Yep, been hearing this on the radio (Texans are the favorites).

I don't think the Texans want it but if the NFL points the bony finger in their direction, they have to accept. Gotta say if they get it, I'll be glued to the tube for every episode....

Except, I don't want to see when they cut players. Just show me who made it.

I think it would become The J.J. Watt Show. He's starting to become something of an attention whore. We can learn just how foul-mouthed Bill O'Brien is and we will find out stuff the rest of us would really rather not know like which players like to pee in the shower, which one pukes before his first pre-season game, which players talk smack incessantly to hide an inner insecurity and how much hazing goes on to rookies.

Like I've said again and again, this is bullshit. I suspect though that you would thrill to see it.

No, Chuck. Even when I was a cable employee and got HBO for free, I didn't watch Hard Knocks. Why the NFL even allows such a show is beyond my comprehension.

This dovetails into another thread I've been following about Michael Sam. The football locker room is not a bastion of political correctness, nor should it be, but once you let a camera crew and live microphones into that place and let the comments be judged by people who have no idea what it's like to be a football player at that level and you'll create all sorts of havoc.

I'd rather not know the details of what gets said there.

Looks like Texans selected for Hard Knocks.

On this show being disruptive to team, Battle Red blog had this to dispel that myth: OK...so by my count, here are the numbers:

- 9 Seasons of Hard Knocks.

- 5 teams were in the playoffs the season prior to the show. Of these, 3 made the playoffs again the next year.

- 4 teams were not in the playoffs the season prior to the show. Of these, 3 missed the playoffs again the next year.

So as far as playoffs go, 66% did the same thing the year after the show as they did the year before. 22% dropped out of the playoffs and 11% improved and made the cut.

Per NFL.com, at least 4 new teams have made the playoffs every year since 1990, which means 4 teams drop out of the playoffs every year. That means 66% of the teams each year that make the playoffs are likely to return to the playoffs the following year, which happens to be the exact amount of Hard Knocks teams that have done the same. 20% of teams that do not make the playoffs each year will make it compared to 11% for Hard Knocks. Coincidentally, if the Texans are on Hard Knocks this year and make the playoffs, that will bring the Hard Knocks percentage exactly on par with the NFL percentage of teams rising into the playoffs.

Overall, based on just that bit of info, it looks like Hard Knocks is a complete wash in regards to how it affects a team's success.
