Agreed. I loved watching Ed Reed when he was younger, but he certainly got knocked down a rung or two in my book the last few years of is career.

The guy just wasn't very good anymore. I don't hold it against him and I don't get those who do hold it against him. He was what he was a year ago, we took a gamble, and we lost. Now that we are done we can at least start to put the mistake behind us.

Good luck going forward Ed. I'm glad you got one last pay day before your earning potential dried up. I am not so glad you got it from us, but oh well. Ed Reed doesn't crack the top 10 of reasons we fell apart this year.

Reports are that S Jawanza Starling has been signed off the Giants' practice squad to take Reed's roster spot. He was in camp with the Texans as an undrafted free agent.

Goodbye Eddie Reed
Though we barely saw you at all
You flew in on McNair's jet
After Quin left for Detroit
They talked about your impact
And your leadership
As the Ravens wished you luck

And it seemed to us
That you had lost a step or two
Not able to make a play
When you suited up
And you would have liked to start
Before that Keo kid
Your labrum burned out long before
Your contract ever did

With our luck, he now signs with the Colts and picks off a pass against us to seal a victory in Indy.

from cbslocal - added a safety and a LB today

Houston (CBS Houston) – With Joe Mays hampered by an oblique injury the Texans added some depth at linebacker on Wednesday. They signed linebacker D.J. Smith, who was last with the San Diego Chargers.

Smith was a sixth round pick of the Packers in 2011 and has 82 career tackles. The 24-year old played his college football at Appalachian State.

With the departure of Ed Reed they also signed Safety Jawanza Starling to the active roster. Starling was in training camp with the Texans. Wide receiver Rico Richardson and cornerback Loyce Means were added to the practice squad.

DJ is 6'0'' and 239 lbs. Starling 6'0'' and 205 lbs. most likely. special teams help and depth hopefully

both young and hopefully fast and in good shape and not injured

Kubiak today said they were planning to play younger guys while discussing release of Ed Reed.

I was in favor of the E Reed signing in the beginning - thought he still had something in the tank. And then the hip condition thing came out.... And then his dodgy work ethic came out (never heard about the Ed-being-Ed thing)..... Doubt it was his comments that got him released - more like an accumulation of everything plus the latest demotion....

Glover Quin? I was glad to see him go, too. But I've had a bias ever since that Jax game when he served the Hail Mary pass to the Jax receiver for the winning score. *Not* heads-up. *Not* a player I want to keep....

Keo just might be getting it. It is not uncommon for new-to-the-NFL DB's to stink it up for a few years before they find their niche (See KJ).

Swearinger looks mighty impressive so far but I won't be shocked if he makes a few mistakes along the way.....
