Default Bud Adams

Saw this on the HT.com message board. It's an article from Al Carter, Dallas Morning News, written in 1997 about the Titans owner, previously known as the Houston Oilers.

Wasn't he a delight.

Anytime we want to complain about Bob McNair we should just go read that article to see how a bad owners really does it.

BTW the 1960 championship team waited 25 years to get rings, another Bud being cheap moment.

I remember one of the linemen we drafted in the mid 80s laughing at the weight room and training facility. He sad his high school had a better setup.

Check out Ed Fowler's "Loser Takes All: Bud Adams, Bad Football and Big Business". Bud Adams was and is a douche. Christmas bonuses were a ham or a turkey. He eventually broke every lease he signed in Houston. Don't get me started on the scoreboard and Home Run spectacular being removed from the 'Dome.

The NFL Networks "Top 10" series included some Oiler suckitude last month. The '71-'72 Oilers (back-to-back 1-13 records) made top 10 "Worst Teams" and Bill Peterson ('72 and 5 games in '73, 1-18 record) made top 10 "Coaches That Should Have Stayed in College". Dan Pastorini and Elvin Bethea both were interviewed and basically said Peterson was a joke. The clips of him while he was miked up by NFL Films bears out their assessments.

I lived through that whole era. I guess I'm pretty bitter about Bud Adams. The only stabilizing influence on him to this very day is coach Fisher, who doesn't take any of Adams ****! Nashville should have to read that article. Then they would realize how lucky they are to not have had to go through what we did with that sorry example of a human being!

I very much respect what Bob McNair is (trying) doing for this city. You will never hear me badmouth his football team.

Except for the noted exception of the selection of their current quarterback. Which, I am quite thankful for Bud stepping in on. VY will probably set that franchise back as many years as Carr did here.

i have always wondered if Fisher had some pictures of Bud molesting a goat or something. I think he's a good head coach, and hasn't done anything to deserve losing his job.....but this is Bud Adams were talking about.

I agree. Even after some of the mistakes of the previous regime, he still lets his football people make football decisions. As an owner he seems to be one who's involved, but not interferes. He's willing to do what needs to be done to win....even after some of the decisions have had a negative effect on his pocketbook.

drayton mcclain should take a note from big bob. "involved but not interfering" should be his slogan from now on.

i'm glad big bob's negative decisions don't affect him from making decisions in the future and present. and (with smith) seems to be learning from said negative decisions.

and he's got a HUGE pocketbook!!!

That was a good book. I also liked Oiler Blues by John Pirkle. It's a really good book that like Loser Takes All...tells all about Humpty Dumpty(Bud Adams) and the way he ruined the franchise.

Speaking of big jokes - Drayton McClain! He is still doing to the Astros what Bud Adams did to the Oilers, lo those many years.

C'mon! McLane certainly has his issues, but to compare him to Bud?! That's just mean.

And pretty dang close. McLane is Adams with better PR. 3 managers and 3 GMs since 2004? Not what you would call a stable work place.

Ok, so I'm mean. I have reason to be with blood suckers like Drayton McClain & Bud Adams. I don't take back a thing!
