The other day in team drills, McCain got position on his receiver and caused his receiver to break off the route, the WR was Andre Johnson.

On another day McCain tried to stuff Jacoby Jones at the line and he bounced off Jones, who immediately had 3 steps on the rookie. He did close the distance, but Jones was open had he caught the ball.

So I see promise but he is a rookie and he will make mistakes. But he has speed and the position coach likes to work with young guys.

I was watching NFL Live on ESPN last night and while talking about free agents still available, they mentioned that Ty Law is still out there. While I know his play with the Jets last year was less than impressive, maybe he should be considered as a stop-gap measure if Reeves does end up being out for 8 weeks or if (heaven forbid) this ridiculousness with Dunta lasts into the regular season...

That meshes perfectly with what I thought of him from the practices I went too. Definitely fast with the skillset to be a solid corner....but he had serious issues trying to bump/jamp WR at the line. He also got abused as a gunner on punt coverage teams several times. He was just repeatedly thrown to the grown on rep.

Since we're supposedly going to do some bump and run stuff and want our CB's on the line jamming WR's that could be a problem for him....but he's definitely got potential.

It's interesting that we drafted him because our M.O. for our secondary has consistently been guys with size and athleticism. They must have a specific design in mind for McCain because he is not the typical secondary draftee of this regime.

I think once you get down to the 6th round your aren't necessarily looking for the prototype. It's either a project or just the best football player left...which seems to be the case. His size is likely why he slipped so far to begin with, but that late in the draft I'm sure the Texans looked at him and said here's a a solid football player with some top flight speed. I'm sure they probably thought he might be more of a return guy initially, but he seems to be getting more play at CB now.

Also, what's up with Troy Nolan? I haven't heard a word about him since both Gibbs and Kubiak referred to him as "that other rookie defensive back I can't recall the name of right now" in OTAs.

Doesn't sound too promising.

Kind of sums it up doesn't it. I have not noticed him, but then again I keep forgetting him at the bottom of the depth chart. Most likely a PS guy this season.

If you think the battle for OLB playing time is happening only on the field, then your missing a whole 'nother aspect to it.

In Twitter.

Okay, I never said the other aspect was worthwhile , but here is a TwitWar being waged between Diles and June:
Quote:
Diles: I might have to put hands on Cato if his ankle tape keeps crossin the line into my locker space...real talk

June: You don't have a line young fella.. Matter of fact I might make you clean up my locker

Diles: oh is that your word...try me then if you feelin froggish and see if your locker looks the same the next day...

June: You keep playin with me and I'm going to steal all your left cleats

Diles: all my left cleats huh...you won't do that if your in your RIGHT mind...tweet beef cuz..

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a nickel back.
