I'm fine with Schaub's health as long as he stayed away from Yao Ming's foot surgeon. I mean, how often does a quarterback's foot take a hit? I don't believe Schaub will ever be the quarterback Manning has been but I do feel Schaub's best years are ahead of him and Manning's best years are behind him. Why would you trade Schaub's future for Manning's?

For what Schaub gets paid, you'd think he could have a custom-designed shoe to protect the stress point a little extra. Surely, with enough lead time, that can be done. Of course, Manning could also wear a neck brace but I think the neck is still more vulnerable to a hit than a foot is.

Much of the Texans' roster is ready to win now. I understand that. Losing the QB could destroy the season but I thought Yates did great for a rookie with little practice time. Sure, he was raw but even a rookie Peyton Manning would have made mistakes and thrown into coverage a few times, especially against a defense like the Ravens.

I think you "dance with who brung ya" and that would be Schaub, despite his occasional WTF interceptions like the one that cost us the Raiders game. Manning would change the entire premise of the offense which is built on zone blocking and play-action off the run. It would probably take at least half the year for our offense to adjust to the way Manning would want it to run.

If Leinart is not retained (and I see no reason to keep him), there ought to be a decent back up for insurance if you feel antsy about Schaub but I'm willing to roll the dice with Schaub as the starter and Yates as the #2.
