KC Joyner on Duane Brown, Turnovers, and More

Insightful stats from Joyner... his are enjoyable reads not so much for Joyner's interpretation of the stats which imo is not always spot on, but then again, some of it is and most of it is usually thought-provoking.

In this article he examines the effectiveness of Duane Brown and Sage Rosenfels and some POA percentages (point of attack win rates) that should be encouraging for the defense this season.

I don’t want to keep bashing the guy, but on a somewhat related note, Brown also notched a terribly low 73.9% POA win rate on running plays. That means he was beaten at the point of attack on run blocks one out of four times, so he also needs to make dramatic improvement in this area. ...

The good news here is that the six of ten bad decisions that led to interceptions were from Sage Rosenfels. He posted that many in the five and half games he played, while Matt Schaub posted only four bad decision interceptions in the ten and half games he played. ...

When Morlon Greenwood was in Miami, he was known as a player who had little if any impact on the stat sheet. His Houston tenure was no different and, if that weren’t enough, he also posted a far below average POA win rate of 9.4%. Xavier Adibi, Greenwood’s likely replacement at WLB, posted a 15.4% POA win rate in a part-time play last year...
