Default What If The Colts Draft Luck?

It now looks like the unthinkable may happen...the Colts may wind up with Andrew Luck and could conceivably torture us for the next 15 years. I think the Colts might very well do that.

Let's presume Peyton Manning wants to come back and play another three years. Comparisons to the Brett Favre-Aaron Rodgers Green Bay situation would surely follow and probably lead to Manning being traded.

But to where? Favre went to talented veteran teams that felt they were a QB shy of a Super Bowl run. See any teams out there now that match that description? Frankly, I don't.

There are some teams that need a QB but really need a lot more than just a better QB and there are a few teams where a QB upgrade could help but the guy they have in place now isn't the problem.

I don't see Manning agreeing to be traded to a bad team that's rebuilding. So that leaves us with just a few possibilities in the order I'd rank them happening:

1) Washington. This probably makes the most sense - decent media market, owner who likes to spend, HC with Super Bowl cred, etc. But are the Skins willing to repeat the McNabb Mistake so soon? And would Shanahan cede some control of the offense to Manning's style of play?

2) Dallas. I sense the Tony Romo era may be ending soon and Jerry Jones' ego could be ready to roll the dice on Manning. Another major media market. Would Dallas' young OL wind up getting him killed?

3) Tennessee. In some ways, it's the most natural place for him and the most unnatural. Would the Colts trade him inside the division? Would Bud Adams pony up the money to pay him? I'm sure Manning's most preferred relocation destinations would be Nashville (near his alma mater) or New Orleans (family home) but even Peyton won't replace Drew Brees.

4) Minnesota. If only to keep Adrian Peterson from leaving but the Vikings can't afford to build a new stadium, much less rebuild a decaying team.

All I can say is, we may have to tank that rematch in Indy if only to prevent some nightmare scenarios.
