Default Draft Prospect: Blake Bortles

Dane has already changed his pick from Bridewater to Bortles and he'll likely change it again, but he lays out a scenario as to why the Texans might go Bortles. He's a good follow on twitter and makes a great draft review guide (free last year), which is very useful if you're into Fantasy Football. Anyway, figured I'd create this thread for Bortles info.

UCF QB Blake Bortles to the #Texans makes a lot of sense...and this why:

I fear the Texans scouts falling in love with measurables when the QB position is more than just height and arm strength. No doubt Bortles is a prospect, but I just don't see the same feel for the game that Bridgewater has for it.

"Standing on the table" for a guy like Bortles is justifiable in these draft rooms when you can point to hard facts like 6'4" and 230 pounds. If that's all it took, then we'd be talking about Kyle Boller leading his team into the divisional round of the playoffs right now.

You take a 1-1 QB because he'll be ready now, not because he'll be ready in two years. I watched enough of the Fiesta Bowl to know he's not ready for the NFL, nice frame or not. If somebody else wants to take that chance in the first round, fine, but they can't expect him to be ready on opening day.

I agree with everything you guys are saying, but BOB might see enough to think he can coach Bortles up and get him up to speed quickly. Interesting chat on Twitter...

Note: John Harris and O'Brien are friends and were teammates in college on the football team.

My man @dpbrugler with a very interesting dot-connecting piece between the Texans and Blake Bortles come draft day: cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-…

@LanceZierlein @dpbrugler Great piece, Dane...one other link is O'Leary's connection to OB. You excel for O'Leary, you can play for ANYONE.

@jharrisfootball @LanceZierlein VG points. Connecting the dots doesn't always work (Marrone-BUF-Nassib) but there is meat on the bone here

@dpbrugler @LanceZierlein yep...just know how much O'Brien values toughness and O'Leary type guys that can learn quickly.
Again, mostly speculation and a lot can change.
