Default Chron: Texans agree to terms with first-round pick Jackson

All the chickens are in the coop.

Quote:
About 2 1/2 hours before the start of his first NFL training camp, cornerback Kareem Jackson agreed to terms on a five-year deal.

Jackson and his teammates began camp at 8 this morning, and the Texans completed the deal around 5:30 a.m. after negotiating into the night. Jackson signing means the Texans have each of their nine draft choices on the practice field for their first workout.

Jackson, the 20th overall pick, enters camp as the starter opposite Glover Quin. The coaches thought so much of Jackson they placed him in the lineup as soon as he arrived to participate in the organized team activities.

General manager Rick Smith and vice president of football administration Chris Olsen worked hard to get all nine draft choices under contract. They got running back Ben Tate, the second-round pick from Auburn, on Thursday.

Tate, a 220-pound combination of power and speed, starts camp third behind Arian Foster and Steve Slaton. It's a crowded field at running back. Chris Henry and Jeremiah Johnson are behind Tate.

Meanwhile, Smith and Olsen continue to work on a deal that would satisfy Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson, who hired Houston agent Kennard McGuire to try to get him a new contract. Johnson has five years left on a seven-year, $60-million contract that will pay him a base salary of $5.7 million this season.

Was at the inaugural 2010 TC practice this morning and did not see Jackson, but maybe he came out later ? The first unit D corners were McCain and Quin, and contrary to what I've heard they did have Cushing with the 1s.
No pads the first day.

He has to sign before he can practice, maybe he has agreed, but hasn't put ink to paper.

Saw the terms at - http://backseatfan.com/2010/07/texan...areem-jackson/

The deal has a maximum value of $16.3 million with 10.35 million guaranteed. Jackson received an 11.6% overall increase over Pettigrew’s deal from last year and a 10.1% increase in guaranteed money. Last year’s 20th overall pick Brandon Pettigrew received a $14.6 million deal with $9.4 million guaranteed.
