Default Search for a QB Coach [Knapp Hired]

Finding an OC was easy in comparison.

Quote:
The Texans have been denied permission to interview Atlanta quarterbacks coach Billl Musgrave and Miami receivers coach Karl Dorrell.
Coach Gary Kubiak is looking for a quarterbacks coach to replace Kyle Shanahan. ...

Matt LaFleur, an offensive assistant who worked closely with Shanahan the past two seasons, was hired Wednesday to be Redskins quarterbacks coach.

I dunno but don't these coachs who are denied the opportunity to interview with another team have some leaverage with their current employer ? I would think some teams would risk seriously alienating their coachs in such a situation and thereby risk losing the services of a fully dedicated and effective coach ?

I wonder if they might place a call to Major Applewhite in Austin. They have him miscast as RB coach up here and I think he'd do a great job as a QB coach in the pros.

Hasn't Applewhite turned down NFL offers to stay in his comfort zone with the Longhorns?

Fortunately, Schaub is a Pro Bowler that understands this offense, so he probably needs someone to just keep him focused from making the big mental gaffe. Someone like Applewhite would be great, but I thought he would be too busy checking Mack Brown for vital signs.

Yeah but...........we always need someone to be able to teach Schaub's successor, don't we?

IMO it's understandable for the teams to deny permission since this move wouldn't have been a promotion for either guy, unless the assistant head coach title is involved.

I threw former Louisville head coach Steve Kragthorpe's name out for offensive coordinator, and I think he'd be a fit for this job as well. Drew Bledsoe had one of the best seasons of his career with Kragthorpe as his QB coach in Buffalo. He worked with Texans WR coach Larry Kirksey at A&M in 2000.

The Texans have hired Greg Knapp, who coached Matt Schaub with the Atlanta Falcons from 2004-06, as their new quarterbacks coach.

Knapp, 46, has been an offensive coordinator for the past nine seasons, including three in Atlanta with Schaub.

That's why I wanted Musgrave as the O.C.

Anyway, now that Jim Mora Jr. has been fired from Seattle, why not have Coach Knapp come down to Houston? Schaub came from Atlanta, one might think a relationship has already been established.

Does anybody have any thoughts on Jay Gruden? He's the brother of that guy who calls Monday Night Football games.

Good Call Roy. You have to have a creepy good awareness of NFL assistants to predict a QB coach hiring.

You aren't the first person to call me creepy good. Most of the time it's a female calling me that, though.
