from chron.com/sports' John McClain
the article: The Texans extended qualifying offers to five third-year restricted free agents, including tight end Owen Daniels. Daniels was extended the maximum, which means a team willing to sign him to an offer sheet must part with first- and third-round draft choices if the Texans don’t match. Others being tendered were receiver David Anderson, offensive tackle Rashad Butler, defensive end Earl Cochran and tight end Joel Dreessen. The Texans also signed free safety Eugene Wilson to a three-year contract and center Chris White to a one-year contract. The team also agreed to terms with defensive end Stanley McClover. john.mcclain@chron.com |

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/6283352.html First, a plea... if anyone catches ANYTHING salary cap related for any Texans player, please post it in the forums or send me an email. This is the time of year when it is hardest to get info on player bonuses, etc. so any help is appreciated. Back to the article... McClover was a RFA, so I'm gonna guess that the Texans didn't think he was worth the minimum tender. I think they did this with Anthony Maddox the year he was a RFA. White was a UFA. Notable names hitting the open market include: C.C. Brown, Petey Faggins, Mark Bruener, Nick Ferguson, Scott Jackson, Bryan Pittman, Cecil Sapp, and Jeff Zgonina. |

A little surprised they didn't try to get Ferguson resigned...maybe he didn't like the idea of backing up Barber? Does anyone know what level the other guys besides Daniels were tendered at?

I'd be rather interested in knowing what Anderson's and now Butler's tenders. Anderson was a 7th, and I would guess that someone might be interested in him, not unlike how the Texans were interested in Kevin Walter when they signed him as a 7th round RFA three years ago. Butler was a 3rd round pick... but since he was cut by the Panthers, I can't remember how that works offhand. |

My understanding is that the low tender would get a team a pick in whatever round they were originally drafted in...even if he was drafted by another team. I would think that a third would be enough to keep away most teams, so they could probably get away with the low tender for him. Although I could be wrong about how that works.
