Default Official Texans @ Jaguars Game Thread, 11/13/2016

The 5-3 Texans head off to Jacksonville on Sunday to take on the 2-6 Jaguars. The Texans will be looking for their first road win, the Jags will be looking for their first true home win (their other "home" win was in London).

Jags QB Blake Bortles has thrown for 2156 yds, 59.2% completion, 14 TDs, 10 INTs and has a 80.1 rating. The main rushers are TJ Yeldon (253 yds, 3.6 avg), Chris Ivory (236 yds, 4.1 avg) and Bortles himself (199 yds, 6.0 avg). Leading receivers are Allen Hurns (443 yds, 14.3 avg), Marqise Lee (442 yds, 13.0 avg), Allen Robinson (442 yds, 11.3 avg) and Julius Thomas (245 yds, 11.7 avg). The Jag defense is a respectable 11th allowing 334.5 yds/gm but 25th in points allowed (26.9).

The Texans don't get much respect in recent power rankings but many keep picking them to win week after week. It's been noted that the Texans schedule actually becomes easier as they face only one team with a winning record (Oakland) in their final eight games....

I'm feeling reasonably confident although wary how easily this squad turns into a pumpkin on the road. The Texans have a higher winning percentage over the years when playing in Florida than they do playing in Texas.

One thing critics have noticed is that Bortles gets a lot of his yards in garbage time after the other team has pulled way ahead. The Texans do not specialize in pulling way ahead so it will be interesting to see what happens down the stretch of a tight game.

The Texans should be wary of the TE tandem of Julius Thomas and Marcedes Lewis. Hopefully, our safeties are back at 100% for this game.

I could feel reasonably confidant about this game if it were in NRG but not on the road.

A bit of funny business going on with the spread..... Jags now favored by 2.5.

Takes big money to move the line so it looks like the sharps/syndicate bettors love the Jags for some reason.... If I had to guess, it's a situational thing: Texans lousy road team, Jags showing improvement, Texans somewhat banged up.....plus, there may be some other long term metrics/trends that are pointing to the Jags....

Frankly, I don't see it.... Texans have had 2 weeks to prepare and the Jags haven't proven much of anything, yet. I'm on the Texans....still, this might be a game where everything goes wrong.....
