Really? This is the same guy that's been on record for staying late and hitting the jugs machine like a mutha since he's been here and OB is just now figuring this out? And this guy can't beat out the chumps we currently have at WR3 and WR4... Every passing day I hate Rick Smith more and more.

Good news, I'm a fan of Posey, too.... I guess the AJ situation might make this (Posey playing) possible....

There is plenty of reason to doubt Smith right now. O'Brien not playing a player you like that Smith drafted is not one of the many reasons to doubt Smith right now.

How much worse can he be than Damaris Johnson and Keyshawn Martin? Those guys give the team ZERO. Posey has been hurt, sure, and since he hasn't played it's impossible to know how healthy he is. But when we've seen him play he has in my view shown much, much more than Johnson or Martin. Posey's not IR'd so presumably he's healthy. Seriously, if he's not as good as Johnson and Martin he shouldn't be playing NFL football because I'm not at all sure that either of those guys should be. Johnson if you'll recall they signed off the street. No one else wanted him. I think I know why. I can't imagine Martin will catch on with another team when the Texans finally let him go. He's undersized, not very fast, suspect hands, doesn't run great routes. Other than that I guess he's fine.

Maybe Posey has a terrible attitude, you know, I have no idea. Or maybe he's dumb as a rock and can't remember the plays. Who knows? All I know is that he's still taking up a roster spot without being asked to contribute anything and when he has played he's looked a hell of a lot more promising than the other two guys who have been in front of him all year.

Posey is an outside receiver not a slot. 2 different spots. Martin/D Johnson, while mediocre, are slot guys with return capabilities (sorta).

Here's hoping that he remains inactive as that means #80 is good to go.

Yeah, Posey is better than Damaris and Keyshawn, but BOB doesn't think Posey is a slot, so he's inactive on gameday because he must not contribute much if anything on special teams. I thought Posey had a great camp from the bit I saw.

I would have been interested to see what Andre Johnson looked like as a slot in this offense with Posey and Hopkins out wide, assuming Andre isn't playing concussed. Andre isn't beating anyone deep anymore, but he ought to still be very effective as a short range possession guy.

I agree with all of this Chuck. I like Posey. I have always liked him. That is why I don't blame Smith for drafting him. As for why O'Brien won't play him I have no idea. Martin is worthless and adds nothing as a returner. Posey was very good in punt coverage last year. I don't buy the slot vs outside thing because AJ and Hopkins both line up in the slot enough that Posey could be outside for half a dozen plays and that is more than Martin sees the field on offense. I like O'Brien a lot but don't get the WR reps at all.

Exactly. I don't buy the slot vs. outside argument at all. You move players around and find mismatches during the game. I get the ST/KR/PR thing, but it's not like Martin or DJ have given us anything spectacular there either. Oh well, I hope Posey gets to play so once again we can assess if he has any future with the team or not. Seems like that's the case with almost every Smith pick. Bust or can he play...

I don't think Posey is or will be a bust and I do also like O'Brien, so hoping these two guys can decide to play together, speculating there.

I agree with what you guys are saying about WR3 and WR4 could probably be just about any WR with little contribution, so putting in Posey couldn't hurt anything, even with a healthy AJ.

Anyways, I hope Posey gets in, does well, and whatever frustrations were, they go away.

Or if not playing, maybe a fair off season trade. Baltimore seems to have several of our ex offensive weapons.

I'm doubting just about everyone in the scouting and player personnel departments right now - as well as McNair himself right. It is those guys who keep suggesting/making awful picks and McNair just lets it go. I understand what you're saying in that it's a coaching decision on who makes it onto the field, but still, I do somewhat hold Smith accountable for drafting a guy in the 3rd RD who's game apparently still isn't good enough to unseat the crap we have at WR3 and WR4.
