You get to direct the Texans for the rest of the year. You are aghast with what you've seen lately and you have McNair's ear as to what should be done.
What would you recommend? a) Stay the course. Play Schaub if he's healthy and trust the coaches to put together gameplans that can win. b) Bench Schaub and ride out the season as a make-or-break audition for Yates and Keenum. c) Fire Kubiak at the end of the season and find a way to unload Schaub even if it means eating some cap money. d) Fire Kubiak and Phillips at the end of the season and start all over with the hottest coordinator/college coach out there. For myself, I'm still at A while leaning towards B. But feel free to make your case for any other answer. Explain your thought process and who you think might be out there to replace people you are letting go. |

If Kubiak can get the team back on track where they can play well enough to be competitive (unlike in the last couple games), and finish the season with
MOL a .500 season even though they fail to make the playoffs, I expect and would think he deserves one more year. But if the team flounders like the last couple games, and it's clear he's lost the team, then I'd think a change should be made after the season is over. So I guess put me in or around the "A" category. |

On 10/16/13, at 10:52AM, I'm an A. There's still 10 games left, and stranger things have happened.
If/when we hit the magic #7, as in losses, then I'm a strong B. Regardless of what happens, I think I'd split your C. I'd like to see some new blood at the QB spot in '14. I don't anticipate a change in HC/DC for '14. I do expect a change in OC if things continue to spiral in the wrong direction. I'm clueless as to who though, but I think that's the direction they will head in. Kubiak will bring in an OC, to call the plays.

I'm a B. Give me Drew Brees Jr. the rest of the year (why do people insist on going straight to the hyperbolic Tom Brady? "so, he's the next Tom Brady, eh?"
![]() That's doesn't mean throwing in the towel. It could salvage the season (Wild Card or better). I don't think we are going anywhere with #1. In the preseason, Yates pretty much had to play flawlessly to hold onto his #2 status. And he pretty much did. Where'd that guy go? Sunday, he looked like the "old" TJ. But he was put in a tough situation - nobody seems to be willing to acknowledge the possibility of rust. TJ can play better and would be my second choice. |

If what I hear is true about the backup QBs getting few practice snaps with the first team, I wouldn't hold it against Yates that he had a bad game in relief. But I didn't see the zip on his passes yesterday that I saw in August either and he did look tentative, particularly after the Pick 6.
