Default OTA's

Seems Texans just finished first two of 10 days of OTA practices from now to mid-June sometime.

Most of 90 guys there. Not sure besides Sharpton, Andre, and Schaub who else is rehabbing right now. Those three expected ready for camp in late July.

Of course very early, so be a while before see how things will shake out.

11 wide receivers in camp , guess we will keep 5 or 6 so three atleast new WR. Iglesias who was practice squad seems to be catching everything is what heard discussed.

Three QB's throwing ok, Beck looks quickest and Keenum looks smallest, ok.

LB's and defense look ahead of offense so far, to be expected since most changes are on offense, OL, QB, WR, TE, RB, FB. Newton is looking ok as swing OT so far .

Anyways, so far so good.

here is a list of 10 WR in camp based on Houston Texans website/roster, sorry if missed one
19 Iglesias, Juaquin WR 6-1 202 24 1 Oklahoma
89 Jackson, Jerrell WR 6-1 190 R Missouri
18 Jean, Lestar WR 6-3 205 24 R Florida Atlantic
80 Johnson, Andre WR 6-3 226 30 9 Miami (Fla.)
87 Jones, Dwight WR 6-4 225 R North Carolina

11 Posey, DeVier WR 6-2 210 R Ohio State
16 Holliday, Trindon KR 5-5 170 26 2 Louisiana State

Apparently no. 19 was noticeable as catching everything thrown his way, which is good, maybe they all look good right now.

so that means 11 WR in camp right now.

so on defense we have in camp, if I can count correctly or didn't miss anyone
14 DB
11 DL
15 LB

or 40 guys trying out for about 25 positions in September.

of course some will get hurt, some will go and some others will likely arrive before then .

Since started this, might as well keep going

on special teams right now

2 Hartmann, Brett P 6-2 227 24 R Central Michigan
5 Jones, Donnie P 6-2 220 31 8 LSU

46 Weeks, Jonathan LS 5-10 242 26 2 Baylor

4 Bullock, Randy K 5-9 205 R Texas A&M
17 Graham, Shayne K 6-0 214 34 11 Virginia Tech

only one KR listed right now, who should also be on WR list
16 Holliday, Trindon KR 5-5 170 26 2 Louisiana State

ST 6 ,
of course all non starters help making the team if they play on coverage with special teams, more flexibiliity the better.

The OL has plenty of competition as well - 15 in all , how many do we keep?

60 Jones, Ben C 6-3 316 R Georgia
55 Myers, Chris C 6-4 289 30 7 Miami (Fla.)
79 Wallace, Cody C 6-4 300 27 3 Texas A&M

61 Austin, Thomas G 6-4 310 25 1 Clemson
62 Caldwell, Antoine G 6-3 311 26 3 Alabama
66 Gardner, Andrew G 6-6 308 26 2 Georgia Tech
71 Smith, Shelley G 6-3 297 25 2 Colorado State
74 Smith, Wade G 6-4 310 31 8 Memphis
67 White, Cody G 6-5 315 R Illinois State
79 Brooks, Brandon G 6-5 343 R Miami (Ohio)

76 Brown, Duane T 6-4 320 26 4 Virginia Tech
78 Butler, Rashad T 6-4 317 29 6 Miami (Fla.)
77 Menkin, Nathan T 6-4 296 R Mary Hardin-Baylor
69 Mondek, Nick T 6-5 307 R Purdue
75 Newton, Derek T 6-5 307 24 R Arkansas State

It seems perhaps we are slowly bringing in bigger linemen, perhaps to help on the endzone scoring punch.

Dwight Jones has asked to be released, he is saying that he no longer wants to play football. Looks like the scouting report on him was correct: Prima Donna, immature and a selfish player.

Appears he could not handle being low man on the totem pole.

Too bad, likely a lot of potential there for Dwigh Jones.

I guess down to 85 in camp now, so expecting a few vet FA's sometime soon.

All 3 QB's looked much more sharp today as heard on radio.

The QB was Beck. Holliday was working with the 2nd team at the time.

from Houston Texans Blog - update on our possible kickers

"The Texans’ kicker competition got going in earnest on Thursday, as rookie Randy Bullock and veteran Shayne Graham kicked in front of the team during practice for the first time.

Bullock, a fifth-round draft pick from Texas A&M, was 6-of-6 on field goals of up to 53 yards. Graham, a 12th-year veteran who was signed after the draft, was 4-of-6. Both kickers made their most important kicks of the day, 47-yard field goals to close out practice with a lot at stake for their teammates — and, by extension, for them. .... "

Sounds promising for young Mr. Bullock.

And good news for Texans if this continues.

A lot of kickers don't make it for the team that drafted them. Seems like it takes a couple of years for most of them before they get past their first case of the yips.

I hope Bullock is different. Anyway, expect the competition to continue deep into the exhibition season. Graham, in particular, is kicking as much to get a job somewhere as to get a job in Houston. If he gets cut, he probably won't be out of a job for long.

I agree, I believe is here because the Texans want a vet to show Bullock the work that it takes to be in the NFL, and I believe Graham is here to stay on the radar for other teams.

Two more days of OTA this week.

Daniel Manning really flying around fast at safety is the word.

Seems DBs overall looking great so far.

At WR Lestar Jean and Jeff Maehl looking very good.

Will they keep 6 WR?

OTA are over.

Seems the team has got the hang of what coaches wanted to teach and learn how Texans want to practice.

Improvement and winning seem to be the message.

On to mini camp next week.
