Let the remake begin!
It's nearing Spring time, my Alzheimers is starting to kick in, and it is time for some "optimism" to start to grow. Hopefully, this coach can teach KJ how not to fall down/bite on fakes. Part One of the remake - Safety upgrades - Love Pollard, but he can't cover for shit. Neither could Wilson. Who, got the ax From the Chronic: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...t/7434379.html Free safety Eugene Wilson, a starter on the worst secondary in the NFL this past season, was among five players placed on waivers by the Texans on Friday. Wilson, receiver Andre Davis, linebacker Darnell Bing, linebacker Isiah Greenhouse and defensive tackle DeMario Pressley were released. Wilson, 30. an eight-year veteran who played cornerback at New England before switching positions with the Texans, started on a defense that ranked 30th overall and 32nd against the pass. Like most of the other defensive backs, Wilson (5-10. 200) didn’t play well last season. Wilson and his teammates in the secondary failed to make plays in road losses to Jacksonville and the New York Jets — both suffered in the final seconds. Free safety will be a position the Texans could target in the draft and free agency. If they find another starting cornerback in the draft or free agency, they might move Glover Quin to free safety. They have veterans Troy Nolan and Dominique Barber on the roster. Bernard Pollard, the starting strong safety, will be a free agent when a new collective bargaining agreement is reached. The Texans are hoping to re-sign Pollard, who led the team in tackles last season. Among the other players waived, Davis, 31, was the biggest contributor. Before spending last season on injured reserve, Davis, a nine-year veteran, was the Texans’ kickoff returner who also made significant contributions as a receiver off the bench. |

I think the most disturbing part of "going young" with the DB's last year was no plan B. Want to start the young'ins and let them take their lumps? Fine by me. But what if every stinkin' one of them plays badly? Who spells relief? Dunta was gone, there was no Jacque Reeves to put in there to at least stop the bleeding a bit.... The 4-2 start misrepresented what was to come... Jason Allen was finally acquired about the halfway mark of the season and really didn't see much action until the last 5 games (those last 5 games he had 3 INT's and 4 passes defensed and seemed like a Pro-Bowler compared to the others).
Like the author says, they need to buy a little experience - at least one guy, maybe two (for injury insurance). |

My favorite part of this article was when he said that he needs players that can play in the SYSTEM. That is what we have always lacked; a system. If players are aware of what you are trying to do, at least they can attempt it...I feel like no one knew exactly what they were expected to do on defense except "get out there and stick with your man".
I really hope these guys implement a true system... |
