Default Andre Johnson: NFL's Highest Paid WR?

Texans and Andre Johnson near a new deal!

According to John McClain’s tweet a few minutes ago, the Texans are about to sign Andre Johnson to a new contract which would make him the NFL’s highest paid WR. We knew this was coming but I’m curious about the timing because I am still focused on the likely Aaron Schobel acquisition. If the Texans have agreed/agree to a new deal with AJ tonight or tomorrow, it bolsters my belief that they are about to sign Schobel for two reasons:

This is such a non-story at this point. No deal is worked out, no real news to report. What a waste of print at this point. Sounds to me John is tired of being scooped.

They had the press conference and I guess Andre ought to be happy with being highest paid receiver in the league for now.

I guess being one of two guys ever to have more than 100 catches in consecutive years with Jerry Rice, and then one of two guys with over 1500 yards in consecutive years with Marvin Harrison, ought to indicate you are pretty good.

So, extending contract to 7 yrs - 78.5 mil, adding incentives above this, adding more to guaranteed amount, not a bad deal really for these days.

I hope Andre can continue to be our top receiver, looks like he will be here for the remainder of his career now.

Good, he deserves it. Only issue I have is the president thing, but I think that is manageable.
