I've wondered about this too. This quote from Kubes bothered me:
I understand that and even agree with it to some extent, but when your not doing anything but acting as a speed bump on the Colts way to the end zone you might as well turn it loose. Maybe he was just making excuses for his coach, I don't know.
I think Head coaches can tend to be conservative on the side of the ball they are less familar with, defense in the case of Kubiak. Maybe he doesn't have enough faith in his inexperienced coordinator. Maybe Smith told him I'm fighting for my job, you've got to let me loose. Maybe Kubiak will encourage more aggression now. I have no idea if Kubiak is the reason for the conservative defense, I just hope it gets sorted out.
