Who Not to draft
 

Thought this was an insightful article and the reason why I have Berry and Thomas at the top of my draftboard....

RB C.J. Spiller - However, the Texans already have a Spiller-profile type of player.

G/T Mike Iupati - John Jerry of Ole Miss or Alabama's Mike Johnson will likely still be around in the mid to late rounds for the Texans to pick up.

OLB Sean Weatherspoon - There's too much money invested in Mario Williams, Ryans, and Cushing to fork over first round money to a position that doesn't affect the most change.

CB Joe Haden - Haden is overrated due to the talent that surrounded him in Florida and he is more of a physical defender than he is a pass disruptor. Boise State's Kyle Wilson and Texas' Earl Thomas are both likely to be available at the 20th spot and both are pass coverage phenoms.

S Taylor Mays - The defense finished 12th against the run in '09 and Mays' primary contributions are in run support. He isn't the ballhawk the defense needs right now.

Likely I agree with this logic of who not to draft, but if Iupati or Weatherspoon were drafted wouldn't bother me too much.

Thomas at Safety and Wilson at CB are likely my favorite choices for today.

Watching the Titans v Texans game reminded me of how bad our Original O line sucked...which may have contributed to Slaton's injury....

And can we say we have any REAL talent at RB, Seriously??? How bad did our running game look compared to the Titans?? I'm all for taking more than one RB in the draft and I agree a bruiser would be ideal, but not at the sake of passing on a Spiller.

And we might as well throw in CB......Haden would be a godsend to this team, as would Thomas....Wilson.

Weatherspoon would be a very welcomed addition to our LB corp, as would any quality O-lineman....

Other than that, I agree.

I agree with Blitzwood on Iupati and CJ Spiller. From the way Slaton ran last year and our history with injured players (D.Davis-Williams), I can't help but want a fresh set of legs in the backfield and/or the addition of a solid run-blocking inside lineman.

Someone wrote on here a while back the possibility of drafting Iupati and Mike Johnson in the 1st and the 3rd and building a dominant offensive line of Brown-Iupati-Caldwell-Johnson-Winston. I love this idea on the condition that we trade down from 20 to the early 2nd/late first to draft Iupati, pick up that additional 3rd that will be used in conjunction with our 3rd to pick up Johnson and a CB or Ben Tate.

Iupati is the only inside OL guy that should be a 1st rounder and he is IMO gone before we pick. If this team wants him and he is available they need to take him at 20, not drop down. Yes the kid is raw, but the things he can do, not many OG can do. He shows excellent feet, a solid anchor and long arms for a OG. Yes he need to work on technique, but he has the natural tools to be a great one. But he has shown he needs to be a OLG, not a ORG, because he is not comfortable on the right side.

BTW i would be in favor of going OL in the 1st and again in the 3rd. And I would be OK with us going DBs in the 1st and 2nd rounds, or Rb in the 1st and 5th rounds. I am pretty open at this point, and I already know they are going to take someone I am going to be hate or not know

NFLN Path To The Draft - The 25 March Episode was focused on the Texans. The candidates: Devin McCourty, Kyle Wilson, or Earl Thomas. Mayock then mentioned we should either take Gerhart in the 2nd or Ben Tate in the 3rd to go along with Slaton.
