Good news for the Jags!

From a Texans fan perspective, this is good news.

Jaguars' Jones arrested on felony drug charge

Associated Press

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges. Jones will be arraigned Friday on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said he was waiting to learn details of the case.

"We're trying to investigate that now,'' Weaver said. "We don't have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts.''

Jones, a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round pick in 2005, failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be.

Last season, coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones' demeanor and work ethic, making him inactive for three games. In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson.

If true, should be some time off..........in the big house. Of course, for some reason pro athletes seem to always get it reduced to jay walking or something. Goodell will likely give him a few games off.

Actually in this case I wondered why the pro athlete got booked on a felony while his buddies got a misdemeanor charge. Now, he'll probably come out of it better than you or I would....but sometimes being "famous" has negative side affects as well.

My guess is that Sooie was the one actually cutting up the coke while his suck ups just had the misfortune of being there.

wouldn't he get more for possession?

if his buddies weren't in possession, but they were just gettin' a little high then they aren't as guilty as the dude gettin' a little high but holding a bag full of the junk.

ooh ooh that smell....

Supposedly, he was caught doing the cutting with a coke covered credit card, so that is why he got slammed the most I guess.

The Jags must have expected something like this would happen since they acquired Jerry Porter and Troy Williamson in the offseason.

At least now we know how a white boy could run a 4.3 at the combine. :p

I think they just watched tape and finally realized that, for a QB, Sooie was a pretty sorry receiver.

This is apparently Jones' MySpace page according to a poster on FootballGuys.com:

You know, people give the Lions crap for all the WRs they have collected in recent years, but outside of Mike Williams, they at least had a guy with talent before injury with Charles Rogers, then a pretty good starter in Roy Williams, and a potential star in Calvin Johnson.

And what have the Jags done with their WRs since 2000 that's been so much better?
2000 R. Jay Soward (29th overall) - bust
2004 Reggie Williams (9th overall) - bust (at least relative to draft position)
2005 Matt Jones (21st overall) - bust

Then they go out and pick up another first round bust in Troy Williamson and the potential-failing Jerry Porter (a 2nd round pick).

The Lions are geniuses in comparison.

so matt jones is out? well, i guess that means the jags aren't going to be throwing it around as much as they did last year....

garrard is lauded as a ball protector but hell, he did about half the job that peyton, brady, drew brees and so on do. really, check his attempts and attempts per game on nfl.com it's a little better than half. it's a good thing MJD is hard to tackle....
