Texans passed on opportunity to be on "Hard Knocks" last year ?

Owner Bob McNair is lobbying NFL Films for the Texans to appear on the HBO summer series Hard Knocks.

Hard Knocks follows a team during training camp and usually features the team on six weekly episodes that run numerous times on HBO's multiple channels.

The New York Jets could be first in line for this year's series that has featured four teams — Baltimore (2001), Dallas (2002, 2008), Kansas City (2007) and Cincinnati (2009).

The Texans were invited to appear last year but decided it wasn't the right time.

"I've let them (NFL Films) know we're interested, and perhaps this will be the year," McNair said Tuesday. "I've discussed it with (coach) Gary (Kubiak) and (general manager) Rick to let them know how I feel about it.

"I think it's time for the Texans to get more national exposure. We have some outstanding players. This would be a chance to showcase our players as well as an opportunity to increase our fan base."

A decision whether the Texans will be featured on the show may not come until June.

This would be kinda neat and I'd have to say I'd watch...

The Texans, I think, have a rep as being somewhat controlling with their information so it'd be nice to see them open up for a change. I think there is a legitimate buzz about the Texans among some of the pundits (Jamie Dukes in particular) which is a little "more realer" this year as compared to the last few years. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Texans get the HBO gig...

Would be fun to watch. However, if the Jets are interested, I suspect they would get the nod over the Texans. New York team coming off appearance in AFC championship game, the opportunity for tons of great footage because Rex Ryan runs his mouth constantly (as compared to Kubiak, this is probably the deal sealer by itself), poster boy QB entering his second year, etc.

I don't see an upside to being on this freak show and I'm really surprised McNair felt it was a good idea. I know he'd like the Texans to have more visibility but there has to be better ways than this.

Personally, I'd love to see this. Just to hear some of the opinions on the players as they are getting cut or not living up to expectations would be worth buying and HBO subscription. I've always wanted to hear them discuss Studdard or Molden behind "closed doors" so to speak. I'm sure the show would only confirm that DeMeco and Andre are solid professionals. The "freak show" of watching the players in the locker room dancing and playing pranks on each other is what creates team spirit. That would be very cool to see. I enjoyed watching Boomer Grigsby trying to make the Chiefs team as a Fullback.

This doesn't happen every day but you and I are in lock-step here.

You know, I haven't lived in Florida for years. I traded it in for a place farther south, like eight and a half degrees of latitude south. So you may be on to something about the effects of direct sunlight.
