Duane Brown is Tipping Off the Defense

Quote:

When defensive end Quentin Groves was studying film last week, he noticed that the Texans left tackle Duane Brown was tipping the plays.
When Brown moved his leg back, it was going to be a pass. When he spread them, it was going to be a run.

So Groves, who got the starting nod at right end after being benched twice and overlooked once, knew the first play was going to be a pass when Brown moved his foot back. ...

What a freakin' IDIOT.

Thats not anything new... Watch the Monday night game and almost all LTs do this. They move one foot back to have an extra step against the defensive end. Every single time a LT lines up that way its because they are going to pass protect. Quentin Groves aint no genious. He could have said that about every other LT in the league.

But if that is a tip, Brown needs to use the same stance on running plays. Or we need to run some draws to trick the d-line into disbelieving the tendency.

That is honestly more of a coaching issue than a Duane Brown issue. You have to self-scout yourself enough to see things like that. It amazes me how mediocre are OL is under what is supposed to be a great OL coach.

Exactly what I was thinking as I read this. Gibbs is some sort of mastermind who is going to transform the running game and propel the Texans into NFL legend? Sure. He yells a lot, that much I know. Other than that he is simply another charlatan in a franchise that has had nothing but from the top on down to the guy who mixes the Gatorade but puts Powerade powder in the water instead. This entire franchise is a fraud.

I agree about it being a coaching issue.

I think it also underscores a bit the poor division record the Texans have had since Kubiak arrived, especially since 2007 (who bothers with that 2006 season with Carr anyway?). They are 4-14 over the last three years!!!! ...which btw makes them 17-9 against everyone else.

The Texans aren't doing things with their ground game that seem to surprise anyone, especially in the division, where the wins are needed the most.

Isn't HOF offensive lineman Bruce Matthews on the Texans payroll and if so why hasn't he seen this problem in Browns play and had him correct it ?

Joshua 12-08-2009 08:39 AM

While this is a problem, do you really need to watch Duane Brown's foot to know if we're running or passing? Seems like there is a much simpler way. I can usually tell from simply looking at the personnel and formation.

Vikings LT Bryant McKinnie did something similar against the Cardinals, according to Tony Boselli.
