Who gets cut tomorrow?

We have to drop 4 guys tomorrow, who do you think is first to go?

#36 Parsons CB
#61 Verdell LB
#67 Torrey OT
#68 Jones OG

I would like to see us trade one of the WR to the Giants for a pick. A Davis for a 4th would be nice.

Also the waiver wire goes both ways.

Nconroe 08-31-2009 10:40 PM

I like Davis, how about Anderson or Martinez?

You have to give up something to get something back in return. And Martinez and Anderson have not done as much as Davis.

Anderson like in David Anderson ? No way, that's one of Kubiaks Colorado State pets. Besides, didn't we pass up a chance to get a late round pick for him from Denver in the off-season on the tender deal ? They'd look like fools for cutting him now.

Will we see any surprising names today from the Texans? Or how about any large names around the league?

BTW didn't the 1st cut down used to be larger, and then a fine tuning, not the way it is now, which seems almost dumb. Or am I not remembering this correctly?

We passed up a 7th for anderson. Do you really think that he wasn't worth it and we kept him because he is CSU?

Nconroe 09-01-2009 11:17 AM

To clarify, PK asked about trading a WR such as Andre Davis, since we have an abundance of reasonable WR. So, it was an alternative to trading Davis, to suggest we trade David Anderson, but I think we keep all 5 WR we had last year. For sure Anderson is a great team player, clubhouse comic, possession guy, fan favorite, so for sure worth the 7th round pick we used to get him. But maybe we do trade one of 5 we had last year. maybe we keep 6 WR this year. I think a couple we cut will get picked up by other teams, if we can't trade them first.

Yeah, I think it's been a couple years now. Seemed to me like the league realized that teams wanted to play the backups exclusively nowadays in the final preseason game, so having the big cutdown right before then was a little counterintuitive.

As for WRs, the only tradeable commodity would be Jacoby Jones. I suppose Kevin Walter, in his final contract year, might be worth considering in a deal if you feel confident in Andre Davis and David Anderson picking up the slack. But Davis and Anderson might be a little harder to move given their contracts.

The Jets are also in the market for a #2 WR, FWIW.

I wouldn't be opposed to moving Walter if the return was decent enough. He's in the final year of his contract and I don't think he will be re-signed; if you could get something for him now, I think I'd do it.

I believe the complete opposite. Unless another team offers him number one money, which i doubt, I expect to see him back here. We may even pay him slightly better than the average number 2 WR to keep him.

Walter is better in run blocking than any other WR on this roster, Davis/Anderson/Jacoby cannot do what he does. Kubiak want to run the ball and run it good, a team would have to offer alot to get the texans to let him go, more than i think any team is willing to give for him.

NBT 09-01-2009 05:55 PM

Walter has a tweaked hammy, so he's not going anywhere right now. Even so, why trade him? Unless we could get a proven Dlineman (and that probably won't happen), I think it would be foolish to let him go.

from the offcial site.

They let go of cornerbacks David Pittman and Cletis Gordon and two undrafted rookies, tackle Jason Watkins and receiver Mike Jones.
I did not get any of them correct, in fact I thought Pittman had look OK.

And now does my rant about the signing of Gordon make more sense? He is here less than a few days and he does not have a fair shot at learning the play book, and then he is cut. WOW that is spending your time wisely.

kravix 09-01-2009 11:50 PM

Besides the head scratcher with Gordon, no real suprises.

I do find it odd that Richardson and Parson lasted one more cut than Pittman. I am not sure if Pittman has any PS eligibility and its possible the team is giving him a chance to find another home sooner rather than later.

The UDFA's had no real shot here with the depth at those positions.
