Texans have nearly finalized a deal sending Sage to Minnesota for a draft pick.

Oh, and according to guys at texanstalk.com, there was a radio report that Weaver has been cut.

I thought we should have taken the third last year, if there was ever really a third offer. I'm surprised that we can get a fourth for him. There's always veteran QB's around to serve as a back-up. I'll be ecstatic adding another pick in the first four rounds.

Sage built up a lot of value beating crappy teams. I'm glad the Vikings are naive enough to take a chance on him.

While I would like that 3rd, I will be 100% happy if they can get a 4th for him now. Only one year left on his contract, and everyone knows he will be leaving the Texans after this season anyway. Take that 4th (can anyone say running back here, maybe another safety?) and pick up one of the available QBs on the market as your backup.

Good luck to Sage. I am happy to see him get his shot and they have a good team in Minnesota. A 4th rounder is pretty good all things considered.

In theory, a third round pick is better than fourth rounder.

I would rather get a fourth though because the Texans will get all night to decide which player they want that was passed up the day before when the feeding frenzy was taking place. Many good players are picked up in the first round of Day 2.

And let's face it, if we were getting Rosenflauggin after what we saw last year would you be happy giving away a fourth? IMO, if last year is an indicator of future performance, he's not worth more than a fifth.

Day 1 is only the first two rounds now. Round 3 starts day 2

I just hope they complete it before the Vikes come to their senses.:D

If it's true I think I might make that trade. But it's a risky move because Schaub could easily go down.

Last year, the Minnesota Vikings nearly swung a deal for Texans backup quarterback Sage Rosenfels.

As rumors/reports had it, the Texans wanted a second-round pick, and the Vikes were willing to part only with a third-rounder.

This time around, the deal reportedly is close to happening, for a fourth-round selection.

The move would likely take the Vikings out of the running for a veteran quarterback in free agency, and it definitely would slam the door on speculation linking Matt Cassel to the men in purple.

Rosenfels is signed through 2009, at a base salary of $1.35 million.

Any deal could not be finalized until the start of the new league year, on Friday, February 27.

I'm glad for Sage. Will give him a chance to rejuvinate his carreer.

It's rare teams make the playoffs if they lose their starter for an extended period. I know the Pats have struck gold twice, and there's plenty of QB's who got their shot and stuck after an injury. Sage has had several shots and never been able to stick. OK, he probably should have been given the reigns over Carr, but he was stuck behind plenty of crappy QB's in Miami too.

I'm just not buying the importance of a back-up QB as much any more. Teams that win with Back-up QB's do it for 2 reasons...good running game and a good defense. I think Sage will be fine in Minny for those two reasons.

Good deal if we can get a 4th simply because he's in his last year. He has been a great value for 3 years and if we can dump him for a pick now, he may go down as the most effective FA signing in Texans history (I'm saying more about our FA history than about Sage).

Thinking more about it, I don't know if a 4th makes sense. It seems to me that we could keep him and let him run out his contract. Then, next year, when he walks, we'd be in line for a compensatory pick for him. My guess is he'd likely get us at least a 5th round compensatory pick... I know that the compensatory picks are based on a net gain/loss in free agency but next season there are a lot of guys we're in jeopardy of losing:

I'm down for a fourth. After all, it's our best draft round (Domanick Davis, Glenn Earl, Owen Daniels, Fred Bennett, etc.) :D

In hindsight a 3rd round pick last season would have been stellar, I'm still pleasantly surprised that there are any teams out there willing to give up a 4th round pick for Sage. Sage is a good backup, for the most part, but he is not the type of QB that can get you anywhere if you have to rely on him for a long period of time. For that reason, I think we would be almost as good relying on Brink or some other vet backup QB as we would sending Sage out to sling the ball around.
