Draft Matrix

I hate trying to put an Excel spreadsheet in a post, because it never looks right. However, that's how I work things through. Assuming we do not trade down and garner extra picks, I've taken a look at 7 rounds to project who might be available in each round. In this particular exercise, I've decided to look at WRs and not OL, mainly because I think the Texans might be happy with the OL and not so much with Jacoby Jones. While we may not "need" a player like Jeremy Maclin or Percy Harvin, they very well may be the BPA when we select. Therefore, I thought I'd at least take a look. Also, I didn't start considering a QB until the 3rd round. Anyway, here's what it looks like.

Round----FS--------------DE---------------DT--------------OLB-----------MLB----------------RB--------------WR-------------QB
1----William Moore--Everrette Brown--Peria Jerry-------Clint Sintim-----Rey Maualuga-------LeSean McCoy----Jeremy Maclin
2----Louis Delmas----Paul Kruger----Evander Hood------Tyrone McKenzie-----------------Donald Brown------Derrick Williams
3---Rashad Johnson--Robert Ayers--Sen'Derrick Marks---Cody Brown----Scott McKillop----Rashad Jennings---Brian Robiskie-----Josh Freeman
4--Sherrod Martin----Matt Shaugnessy--Ron Brace--------Zach Follett---Dannell Ellerbe----James Davis------Jarrett Dillard----Rhett Bomar
5--Brandon Underwood--Lawrence Sidbury--Chris Baker----Jason Williams--Jason Phillips----Arian Foster------Mike Thomas-----Cullen Harper
6--C.J. Spillman----Derek Walker-----Darryl Richard--------Lee Robinson---Antonio Appleby---Andre Brown---Demetrius Byrd----Stephen McGee
7--Darcel McBath----Kyle Moore-----Ra'Shon Harris--------Victor Butler----Joseph Frantz-----P.J. Hill----------Jeremy Childs----David Johnson

Surprisingly, Mike Mayock has Moore rated as the #3 Safety prospect among seniors. His rating doesn't even factor in underclassmen who have declared. Not that Mayock is the ultimate draft guru, but I found his rating somewhat surprising to say the least considering we all think he's top 20 talent. I wonder if knows something about Moore the rest of us don't?. Like some sort of character or major injury issue...

I think it's a mistake to leave Gartrell Johnson, a hard-running 225 pounder,
out of the mix of potential backs to be Slatons backfield partner in Houston.
He had a very, very productive bowl game (285 rushing yards !), last month to cap his college career at Colorado State, which is of course Kubiaks favorite college for finding NFL talent.
Johnson is in Houston this week for the E-W game so Kubiak and staff should get a good look-see at him.

John McClain is thinking the same thing. Since he played with Klint and Klay, we should go ahead and pencil him in.

If we're unhappy with Jacoby, which we should be, we best take a look WR Mike Thomas. He's a perfect fit asa slot receiver and exceptional punt returner. I would not have been happy with drafting a WR until I have seen him at the Shrine game, he has looked fantastic.
