I figured our most likely picks in the draft 15, 47, 79, 111, 143, 175, 207 and cherry picked using their board taking BPA regardless of position and Im actually happy with the outcome.

15.) Alex Mack OC

We would be getting an instant upgrade at C and possibly pro bowl caliber anchor of our OL for many years. Also improved depth by moving Myers to backup.

47.) Max Unger OL
No way Salaam is in our long term plans so finding his replacement while Gibbs is still around might be a wise move.


79.) Josh Mauga LB

Insurance in case Diles doesnt come back a 100%. Tackling machine with good nose for the ball. Nice size and speed. Reminds me of Ryans.

111.) Ron Brace DT

Another space eating DT for goal line and short yardage situations.

143.) Clay Mathews OLB/DE

Situational pass rusher opposite Mario and instant SP contributor.

175.) Curtis Painter QB

A young QB with good size for Kubiack to coachup.

207.) Ryan Stancheck OL

No way Studdardis in our long term plans so finding his replacement while Gibbs is still around might be a wise move.




I know everyone here is clamoring for a heavy dose of D early in the draft but this wouldnt be to bad.

Well, if I had to make a guess based on the way the players above are ranked, and based on our BPA, I would go:
1. FS - Patrick Chung
2. DT - B.J. Raji
3. DE - Connor Barwin
4. OLB - Anthony Heygood
5. QB - Chase Daniel
6. TE - Dan Gronkowski
7. OG - Paul Fanaika

I think that position has already been addressed. Heard of Duane Brown?

We could still, theorhetically land anywhere between #8 and #23. If the season ended Wednesday, we would draft anywhere between #13 and #15.

Secondly, this draft board is going to change a hell of a lot when the underclassmen start declaring. But, given the scenario above and cherry-picking:

#15 - Javon Ringer, RB, Michigan St. They say you need two quality RBs now in the NFL and we just have one. Ringer fits a WCO very well although his blocking needs improvement. Should compliment Slaton very well and take some of the load off him.

#47 - Matt Shaughnessy, DE, Wisconsin. Has lost time to injuries and is not a polished product but he does have height, speed and a frame to add weight. Can play all three downs so he can replace Weaver.

#79 - Kevin Ellison, SS, USC. Help for the secondary. Question may be whether he is overrated because of the talent surrounding him.

#111 - DeAngelo Smith, CB, Cincinnati. The fourth round has traditionally been golden for us so, no matter who we take, I'll be optimistic about his chances.

#143 - Orion Martin, OLB, Virginia Tech. You didn't think we'd get through the whole draft without taking a Virginian, did you?

#175 - Brian Johnson, QB, Utah. Coming off an undefeated season. Will he have the tools to be an outstanding quarterback in the pros?

#207 - Mark Hafner, FB, Houston. A seventh-round nod to the local U.

But I really don't think the draft board will look anything like this.

No offense Mussop but I would be calling for DNA tests to see if Casserly and Rick SMith was related if that was our draft.

I personally think we will be at 18 but playing by the rules:

#15 - DE Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech - rangy pass rusher with great speed and a freeney like first step. I think to in order for Williams to be utilized as much as possible.

#47 - S William Moore - Great safety had kind of a down year, and is a key piece of the puzzle.

#79 - RB James Davis - Clemson: The ying to slaton's yang. More of a pound it in back with great production but a little overshadowed by Spiller. Crisp first cut.

#111 - WR Pat White: Could be a randle el type and they would run a mean wild cat. A bit of a luxury pick but I think it could pay big dividends.

#143 - QB Rhett Bomar: Good athleticism a world of talent and we need someone to replace Sage next year.

None taken :) Like I said i went throught he list and took best player available regardless of position and thats what I came up with. I was surprised to have OL early but they were BPA IMO. Alex Mack is probably the safest pick in this entire draft. Hes nearly a unanamous future pro bowler by all the scouts. He has little or no weeknesses. You cant say that about any other player that will be available to us that late in the first. Maybe Duke Robinson???? Another OL!

I like MJ alot. In fact when I have watched him he has impressed me. However he has a reputation of not being motivated and not playing with enough passion. He had to do something to get that rep. I dont know if I want to risk such a valuable pick on a player with that ?mark. Of course if IIRC they said the same thing about Mario! :cool:

Actually I would be happy with either one but their is a bigger gamble taking MJ. Myself I would go witht the surer pick Mack. The rest of youre draft would make me very happy.

My first question is who is this guy making the list? Rey Rey is #4? I don't think the NFL is going to see him that way. The kid is good, but he guesses and takes himself out of to many play, he show little instinct. He has highlight hits, and many would be fined in the the NFL, he is a head hunter. Mid round pick at best, IMO.

2nd Mussop, you are going to pass on 19 higher rank players without a trade down? This is a huge reach, it would be far better to trade back in grab Mack later, if you think he is the one.

Next there is no way 3 rookie OL man make the team in any given year, especially not with this staff. So why waste a pick?

None of the 19 players I passed were higher rated IMO.

Like I said i went throught the list and took best player available (IMO) regardless of position and thats what I came up with. I just wanted to see what I came up with doing it that way.

Higher rated by you. If that is your rating then OK. I like BJ Raji the best right now, but the scout who put this list together obviously does not.

I agree that this list is just a teaser, but as PK has said, I had to get my fix. The Draft is a long way off yet, but it is fun to look and speculate. And of course everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I agree on Rey Rey. And besides what PK said, he is more a 3-4 kind of guy.

18 to 23 looks about where we will end up on draft day.

edit: OK after re-reading it I can see where you missunderstood. Im talking about a backup OT. The thing about Unger is he can backup any position on the line. This makes him more valuable IMO. Also Gibbs isnt going to be around forever so finding a capable replacement for Salaam now should be a priority.

Lots of opinions/ratings will change between now and the end of the combine. Especially mine.:D I have been a big Raji fan myself. In fact he was higher on my board than Mack until recently. The more I thought about it the more it made sense to go Mack instead of Raji IMO.

Mack would be an instant starter and and be the anchor of our OL for the next decade.

Keeping Scaub upright and healthy is of the upmost importance. We all know what happens when Schaub gets hit too much.

Having a bigger stronger center would improve our short yardage ability. A better running game means the defense stays off the field.

Better protection means less turnovers. If we can cut down on our turnovers our offense would be deadly.

Injuries happen so adding depth to our OL is crucial. Think about it, is there anyone you are confident in if Myers or Brown goes down for any extended period of time? Not me! White, Salaam!!! :eek: BARF!!!!! It would mean not only the season is over but now Schaub is going to be exposed to more contact risking more injuries.

Our offense is OL depth and maybe one more productive RB away from being elite. Okoye is just scratching the suface of his potential and should only get better. Robinson has come on strong and I havent given up on Okam yet. Every year you see talented DT's moving around via FA or trades. Very seldom do young DT's come in and make an impact.

Sure we all agree that Salaam will not be around forever, just don't replace him in this draft with our first round pick. 5th, 6th, or 7th maybe.

Ok, sure, just not with the #1 pick of this next draft. There are way bigger fish to fry.

I suggested taking Unger to replace Salaam with pick 47. 47 would be our hypothetical 2nd pick.;)

After the end of the regular season, it looks like the #15 slotting for us. If Moore should drop to us at # 47 I would be astounded. He is probably 1st round material, but it would not be the first time a good FS lasted till the 2nd round. A steal in my estimation.

Looks like Unger is an OT/C with size, perhaps he'd drop to third? Moore looks like some have in in top 10, but I like us getting a safety, maybe even at 15. Or how about Taylor Mays at safety. Good size. maybe need to see combine speed on these guys.
