Jags Decline Option On Fournette. Should Texans Have Interest?

Jags decline option on Leonard Fournette. He costs $4.1 mil for 2020 and an $8.6 mil cap hit. However, he now essentially becomes a free agent in 2021 so if he plays great, the Texans could re-sign him and, if he sucks, you can not only part ways with the LSU runner but also potentially get a 2021 comp pick if he signs with someone else.

I'd be willing to dangle a 3rd-to-5th round pick and see if the Jags show interest. Ideally, he could be the sort of all-purpose back that we don't have now.

Had the Texans not already invested in David Johnson, I think it would be a worthy consideration. I take it you do not think much of Johnson as an all-purpose back, but he has receiving skills. Caught 80 balls in 2016 and 50 in 2018, his two seasons with a full 16 games.

So if Johnson and Fournette are both healthy, it's a lot of money to start the 2020 backfield (along with Duke Johnson and others). Do you suspect Johnson is damaged goods?

I've seen better value at the landfill. Cardinals probably didn't dare dream there was a GM so stupid as to trade arguably their best player for an overpriced broken down has-been. But then there was Bill O'Brien.
