J.J. Watt Back Re-Injured/Headed to IR/Ninja Re-Signed

Ian Rappaport is reporting that J.J. reinjured his back and he will miss significant time and maybe the entire season.

Once the Texans place Watt on IR, they are expected to sign DE Antonio Smith per various media reports.

The Ninja played some with the Broncos as part of their Super Bowl team last season.

Just the other day I was wondering what was happening with Antonio, if he was still playing and if so where. Now I know. Sucks to be apprised under these circumstances.

I wonder who's going to take the blame for letting JJ come back so quickly, too quickly, clearly. I also wonder if he'll ever again approach his previous level of play.

Today is a new day in the NFL. I think it will be more and more common for guys to make their money and get out early. Hopefully Watt at least plays out his contract.

I would guess J.J. himself pushed the quick return. He has never seemed the type to not push himself and he has been a quick healer from other injuries.

What I worry about is whether star players that are constantly double and tripled-team get so beat up that their bodies simply can't take all the weight being thrown at them.

If JJ pushed it (which I assume is correct), it's too bad you don't have a role for a guy who thinks longer term than a Defensive Lineman. Maybe someone who could oversee personnel and think strategically about what is best for the franchise.

Well, the Dline did OK in preseason, so let's see what happens without JJ. Lot of young guys.

Nice to Antonio back, good guy.

And Cushing back at practice, hope he is ok.
