Will Dunta be Dunta?

Ive heard alot of speculation about Dunta Robinson, with some saying that he wont be the same player that he was?

Does anybody know anything about his injury, and whither or not we can expect probowl play as soon as he gets back?

expecting pro bowl play from a guy who hasn't been to the pro bowl coming off a vicious, career threatening, hamstring ripping, knee ligament tearing injury?

absolutely. go daunte.

Dunta keeps saying he is ahead of schedule, no setbacks, etc. But he is still PUP'd.

And he's still going to be financially motivated when he does return what with this being his last season under his rookie contract. Color me optimistic.

If he ultimately returns to or gets close to his previous athletic prowess,
I'd be very doubful it could happen before the 2009 season. And I honestly
have no clue if he gets back to that level at all ?

Me too.

And, from what I've read, these ligament-type injuries are much easier to come back from than bone-type injuries. I'm not sure where a muscle falls into that, but considering it is tissue, you'd think it would be more analogous to ligament-type injuries.

It's not uncommon to hear that people come back stronger from these injuries. I have a friend who tore an ACL playing soccer and came back stronger and faster.

So, while I'm a bit jaded by the Texans' injury history, I'm consdierably optimistic in this situation given the characteristic of the injury and Dunta's work ethic.

I'm not a doctor and am generally loathe to play one even as a fan, but I think I am less concerned about Dunta's ACL than his torn hamstring. Well, damn, I'm worried about both since quickness and change of direction are essential to his game, but something about the hamstring recovery makes me nervous.

I'm still wearing my optimism here proudly though.

I hope Dunta takes his time and doesn't re injure ACL or hammy, maybe be close to 100% Dunta by 2009. come by too quick and risk never returning completely.

IMO, whatever he gives us in 2008 is gravy. We shouldn't expect anything special from him this year. I know he is one brave, tough little dude but he may never get back the quick-twitch stuff that made him a shutdown corner. PUPing him was the right thing to do and if they IR him it may be in his best long-term interests. Yet, I know he's going to want to play. Let's wait til his doctors agree with him. I'd rather he not play at all this year than reinjure himself trying to come back too quickly.

I'm optimistic that he will get back the same level of athletic ability as he had before. I just doubt it will happen before next year. Players recovering from just an ACL have a tendency for nine months to return to the field, but an extra three or four months to hit full speed. Toss in the hammy and I would be surprised if he was the Dunta of old this year. That said, I'd approach the offseason with the assumption that I had the real deal Dunta for next year.
