It's a meaningless scrub preseason game, Arky. I think we're good. Enjoy the night off. :)

chuck 08-30-2012 07:17 PM

That was pretty good.

chuck 08-30-2012 07:33 PM

I don't even know what the F these idiots are reviewing. These rookie refs are a joke. Just give the regular guys what they want and let's move on.

popanot 08-30-2012 08:06 PM

Keo's getting torched.

I have no idea why Wade loves this guy so much.

I'll tell you who I like, I like the two other RBs, Grimes and Forsett.

popanot 08-30-2012 08:22 PM

Man, I see them keeping 6 WRs (AJ, Walter, Martin, Jean, Posey, Holliday) and what now looks like 4 RBs (AF, BT, Forsett, Grimes) and 3 TEs (Daniels, Casey, Graham). No way they can keep more than 2 QBs now, can they? What other position gets trimmed short? No real FB?

He just got torched again. This time on a run. He might be unemployed tomorrow.

That's what I expect. I wonder what they'll do about their third OT spot now that it looks like Butler is hurt. They'll look for a veteran, surely.

HPF Bob 08-30-2012 09:28 PM

Well, we won and I got about an hour's sleep. Hopefully no serious injuries although I saw Butler hurt his elbow. Cutdowns coming tomorrow.

WMH 08-30-2012 09:43 PM

We lost Butler with torn triceps. Done for the year......

Gonna need a swing tackle, as we are pretty slim all of a sudden.

T Rashad Butler tore his tricep and is out for the year. Kubiak: "Unfortunate. Tough deal." #Texans -- Nick Scurfield (@NickScurfield)

Like I said in another thread, trading Arian at his peak & most marketable this past offseason for pick(s) and/or players(s), using the cap-space to retain last years starting right side of the OLine, and making Tate the feature back would have been the way to go IMO. Forsett and rookie Grimes could have been our 2 & 3# guys - good backs are still a dime a dozen.
Local 790 radio-sports talk show guy Greg Kock, who's a former GB Packers Hall-Of-Fame offensive tackle, says that Newton got the starting job by default since Butler is so bad, and he has even an even lower evaluation of the play of starting RG Caldwell. This thing with the OLine is likely to bite us in the azz this year.
Trade deadline is into October, right ? Since we are stuck with Foster and his fat contract, do we now think about shopping Tate or another marketable player
to help our OLine or roll the dice with what we've got ?

Wow. We should have gotten rid of Foster to keep Mike Brisel and Eric Winston?

You think two cement shoed OL are irreplaceable and Arian Foster is a "system guy"?

You think Tate/Forsett are going to give our passing offense 700+ yards and multiple long passing TDs?

I don't know what dime store you shop at, but if they have RBs like Foster by the dozen I wonder why the other 31 NFL teams aren't there.

WMH 08-31-2012 09:42 AM

Personally, I'm quite happy to be "stuck" with Foster. Good spot to be in.

We lost a swing tackle. If things go well, Butler wouldn't have played. I don't see them trading guys that will contribute this season for someone who may, or may not play.

Because the ZBS requires a certain skill set, I would not be surprised if the Texans can find a decent replacement on the waiver wire for Butler and possibly an upgrade at RG and RT. They've already cut Studdard who could always come back in an emergency. The real question is what they do with Brooks and Jones if they are deemed "not ready" but too valuable to cut?

Incidentally, I thought the "2"s did a fine job in run blocking but looked average or worse in pass blocking last night.

IMO Jones is ready right now to step in if your starting LG, OC, or RG goes down. Jones is looking like a great fit for this offense. Did anyone notice that Meyers had left the game in NO? I did not notice, that is how good Jones looked.

Nconroe 08-31-2012 11:48 AM

Texans still have Andrew Gardner as experienced swing tackle on roster who they picked up last year when Butler was hurt.

Jones did look good at LG last night, which might offer another option with the OLine if Newt struggles: Wade Smith has tackle experience, so they could move him to RT and Jones into his slot at LG. It would be an option in a pinch.
