Knapp about to leave?

I'd rather lose him than Wade. :)

Could this mean Leinert might be wearing a Raiders uni in 2012 if Knapp is that teams new OC ?

Perhaps. The Raiders haven't acquired a QB in a few months so they are due.

Looks to be official now...

Knapp was only a quarterbacks coach in Houston, but the Texans did finish the 2011 regular season tied for the NFL lead in rushing attempts.
So the QB coach gets credit for establishing the running game? Cool! Even if that is a little like praising the beer vendors for the quality of the bottles.

Knapp should get kudos (along with Kubiak and the OC) for developing Yates so quickly. IMO, we don't need Leinart now that Yates has playoff experience. Let Leinart follow Knapp to Oakland. I'm content to have Yates as the #2 and maybe take a flier on another low-round QB as the #3.

Speaking of QBs, did anyone else see Jerome Solomon's article saying we should go for manning? Intriguing.

I also saw a poll from the Senior Bowl where they asked all the players who they would prefer to play for and the Texans were the number one answer.

It is officially the offseason and with the anticipation and the way the season ended it will probably be the longest offseason yet for me.

My guess for Knapp's replacement, based strictly on his profile: Redskins Offensive Assistant Mike McDaniel

He worked under the Shanahans last year and was an offensive assistant for the Texans in 2006-2008, assisting with the QBs in his last season here. He didn't go to Colorado State but he is a Colorado native.

From the Chronic:

Texans talking to Dorrell about QB coach vacancy

Karl Dorrell was head coach at UCLA from 2003-07. (Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)Coach Gary Kubiak is talking to Karl Dorrell, the Miami Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach last season, about replacing Greg Knapp, who’s the new offensive coordinator at Oakland.

Dorrell coached wide receivers from 2000-2002 at Denver, where Kubiak was the offensive coordinator.

Dorrell was UCLA’s head coach from 2003-2007 before moving to Miami. He coached receivers and quarterbacks during his three seasons under Tony Sparano.

At UCLA, Dorrell had four seasons of 7-6 or 6-6 records sandwiching one year of a 10-2 record. Among the players he coached then was Maurice Jones-Drew.

Saw some tweets from Alan Burge, and apparently, this is the 2nd time Kubiak has tried to hire him. 1st time was prior to Knapp, and he was denied permission (still under contract).

Whatever. As long as we don't have to play a 5th round rookie, we'll be OK.

NBT 02-13-2012 09:36 AM

I know one 5th round rookie who is now a sophomore in the NFL, that I wouldn't mind seeing at QB. Of course Mr. Yates now has a year under his belt and with and with a TC, along with the under fire experiience he has now, I would feel a lot better if Shaub should get hurt again.
