The Cuts

So far it's Dorin Dickerson and Damione Lewis (rumored)?

Kubiak is due to have a press conference at the 2:30. Should be on the radio, 610 or 790 or both, I suppose. I'm not sure if he's going to talk about cuts or not - perhaps he just speaks about last night's game.

One thing - if you hear a player's name on the cut list it doesn't mean he's necessarily gone. The player still has a shot at the PS which I believe will be announced Sunday night.

WMH 09-02-2011 04:03 PM

Nothing in the presser.

Heard thru the radio - Adibi and Hill also were notifed.
Adibi is a little puzzling......

barrett 09-02-2011 04:07 PM

Adibi struggled some at ILB. He didn't stand up well against the run. I would guess it means dobbins is in.

No need to guess, it's obvious if they keep 4 inside backers which they'd surely do in their 3-4. But while I was real surprised about Adibi, I had to remind myself it's Wades defense and Dobbins is Wades guy.
So we've got Cushing, Ryans, Sharpton, Dobbins & then outside it's Mario, Barwin, Reed, & Nading, right ? 8 total LBs ? Or is somebody else like Braman
going to make it 9 ?

cadams 09-02-2011 04:52 PM

i am surprised by adibi being cut. i thought he had a pretty good preseason, and i think he is healthy. oh well, i guess we will see how things shake out

Arky 09-02-2011 05:18 PM

Yep, Adibi's agent reporting he won't be back as a Texan.

610 reported the Texans are saying the full list will be out be 3pm tomorrow (Saturday) but I imagine there will be a few more "leaks"....

From Berman:

HOUSTON - The Houston Texans released safety Shiloh Keo, the fifth-round pick from Idaho, third-year linebacker Xavier Adibi and the only punter on their roster, Brad Maynard, as they reduced their roster from 80 to 52 players, one below the maximum.

The Texans' cuts include tight end Anthony Hill, who was taken in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

He played in five games in 2009, but didn't play in any last season.

Hill is a former star at Clear Brook High School.

Other local products who were released include runningback Chris Ogbonnaya from Strake Jesuit, along with linebacker Cheta Ozougwu from Rice, the Texans' seventh-round pick, and receiver Terrence Toliver, from nearby Hempstead, who were waived injured.

The Texans cut receiver Trindon Holliday, their sixth-round selection last year.

Also released on Saturday are receiver Dorin Dickerson, defensive tackle Damione Lewis, center Howard Barbieri, long snapper Scott Albritton, linebackers Mister Alexander, Steven Friday, Stanford Keglar, and Matt Marcorelle, defensive end Scooter Berry and John Graves, safety Quentin Demps, guard Andrew Gardner, and tackle Pete Hendrickson.

The Texans also waived receiver Jeff Maehl, defensive tackle Guy Miller, fullback Zac Pauga, tackle Cole Pemberton, receiver Derrick Townsel, center Cody Wallace, runningback Javaris Williams and safety Torri Williams.

From the Chronic:
http://www.chron.com/sports/texans/a...rs-2154415.php

Safety Shiloh Keo, punter Brad Maynard and running back Chris Ogbonnaya were among the players waived by the Texans on Saturday when they reduced their roster from 80 to 52 – one short of the maximum 53.

General manager Rick Smith and coach Gary Kubiak will continue to rework the roster while the Texans prepare for the Sept. 11 opener against Indianapolis.

Among the veteran players kept on the roster were Steve Slaton as the fourth running back and Bryant Johnson as the fourth receiver.

Keo, the fifth-round pick from Idaho, didn’t make the team as the fifth safety. He’s a candidate for the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Because they waived Maynard, the Texans will be in the market for a new punter.

Ogbonnaya, who led the team in rushing in preseason with 54 carries for 192 yards, also could be placed on the practice squad.

Linebacker Cheta Ozougwu, a seven-round pick, was waived injured along with free agent receiver Terrence Toliver.

Saturday’s moves mean the Texans kept seven of their eight draft choices: defensive end J.J. Watt, outside linebacker Brooks Reed, cornerback Brandon Harris, cornerback Roc Carmichael, quarterback T.J. Yates and offensive tackle Derek Newton.

Carmichael, a fourth-round pick, didn’t play in preseason because of a shoulder injury.

Outside linebacker Bryan Braman, who signed as an undrafted free agent and recorded a team-high 2 ½ sacks in preseason, made the team.

Notable veterans waived were linebacker Xavier Adibi, defensive end Damione Lewis, receiver Dorin Dickerson, tight end Anthony Hill, receiver Trindon Holliday, safety Quentin Demps, safety Torri Williams and linebacker Stanford Keglar.

Others placed on waivers were running back Javarris Williams, fullback Zac Pauga, receiver Jeff Maehl, receiver Derrick Townsel, offensive tackle Cole Pemberton, center Cody Wallace, center Howard Barbieri, offensive tackle Peter Hendrickson, defensive end Scooter Berry, defensive end John Graves, guard Andrew Gardner, linebacker Mister Alexander, nose tackle Guy Miller, outside linebacker Steven Friday and snapper Scott Albritton and linebacker Matt Marcorelle,

Thanks for posting this... ^^^

Hmm, interesting...

People that made the team and that should still be nervous: Slaton, Bulman, Barber, McManis, McCain, Carmichael (but possible PS)

Possible PS'ers: Keo, Maehl, Friday, Berry, Pemberton, Wallace, Alexander, Holliday

Happy they kept: Newton, Braman

nunusguy 09-04-2011 08:21 AM

I'm thinking that they may have wanted to place Braman on the PS (and they still may try), but they realize what others do which is that with his natural physical atributes of excellent length and quicks, he's got a motor and is very aggressive. Now it's a question of whether he can learn the techniques to develope into a skilled NFL pass-rusher ? But I bet he wouldn't clear waivers because he has flashed just enough during preseason with his considerable upside to get on more than one teams radar.
Regarding Keo, you're always pulling for a nobody from a no name school, but clearly Wade overrated him from his first impressions of the Idaho safety at the East-West game he coached. Sorry bfut this kid is not wothy of a late-round pick and should have been an UNFA. Maybe they do keep him on the PS though ?

As for Keo, he was draftable, but he does not fit what Wade is looking for in a safety. He is a in the box type safety, a slower version of Pollard. He does flash on special teams, so he does have a carrier ahead of him in the NFL, but he most likely will not be more then a special teams captain type guy.

Plus he got caught up in a numbers game here, Wade did not know what the DBs were like on this team at the time of the draft, and according to Wade he has been surprised by the amount of talent that was here. His way of bitch slapping the prior defensive coaches.

This is one of the bigger misses I had. I thought Adibi had looked solid this preseason.

Exactly, so why did Wade draft him, it's his defense ? And I don't think coachs use even low-round draft picks for players who's single value is playing on STs ?

Could be a product of having the draft before FA. Also, while he looked good @ the senior bowl, he was lost when he started going against vets.

I saw Keo do a few good things, but also a few bad things. There was the lockout dealie that effected all the rookies. Keo, I think, perhaps may have been one of those effected most. I didn't re-watch the Viking game but from what people are saying, he kinda stunk it up. Keo seems very raw and sometimes coaches will let a guy hang around if they think they can coach him up and he shows a willing attitude....

Keo can't tackle. It's tough to be an in the box safety when you can't tackle.

Ya, I saw him whiff on a sack but he's credited with 3 tackles in the preseason games. I think what you mean is "he's not a good tackler". Perhaps that can be corrected....

painekiller 09-17-2011 01:10 PM

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I will post this here. Roc Carmichael was finally placed on IR and Tim Bulman was resigned.

So the team has finally addressed the extra CB on the roster and gotten the team back to normal numbers of guys at each position.

WMH 09-22-2011 02:24 PM

HUGE blow to the Oline:

@McClain_on_NFL: Texans placed OT Rashad Butler on IR. Brought up Andrew Gardner from P squad. Signed Cody Wallace 2 P sqd.

@McClain_on_NFL: Butler, top reserve at both OT spots, suffered torn triceps. That's a blow to O line.

Would "assume" it happened during a workout period.
