Wade Phillips on Kareem Jackson

Buried in some offseason rah rah column...
Quote:

"I think technique-wise he needs a lot of work," Phillips said. "I guess he was able to play at Alabama without a lot of technique without worrying about staying low enough or moving his feet, those kinds of things. I think that caught up with him. I think we can coach him. We'll drill him enough that we'll go over and over and over."

Who is Phillips slamming more here.... (a) Jackson, (b) Rick Smith, or (c) the Alabama coaching staff?

It's at least encouraging that Phillips is recognizing where the defense has its problems. Not sure I buy into his admiration for Shaun Cody as a NT, but it's a start at least.

You are using a Richard Justice article? I don't think that idiot knows how to do anything except carp about something or someone.

I think Rick Smith relies a lot on his scouting staff and the position coach's opinions as to whom he drafts. Phillips also said that the "steps" can be corrected, that it was the deep speed of Jackson that really had him worried. With better over the top help last year, that maybe wouldn't have mattered so much. With both safeties being cut, that situation is already being addressed. Maybe Jackson will never be one of the best CB's in the league, but with Phillips help he can at least become a good one.

Yeah, there is also stuff on Texans website, interviews with CB coach on defensive style and technique to hopefully help the situation.

Didn't they also get rid of , change out a few of the college scouts?

Let's see, what are the odds of a draft pick working out across the league by round?

We shall see. someday, maybe if lockout ever ends.

All of the above.
And btw, Justice is just the messenger.

So shoot the messenger! All we need is more negativism on this board. How about all the other viable options we now have at CB, Harris being the most recently annointed.

Supposedly under the "Denver model" the coaching staff is heavily involved in the personnel decision making and the scouts are really only information gatherers whose opinions aren't given much, if any, weight in the evaluation process.

That's mean, hateful language towards little Richie - you need to learn to like him, he's really harmless.

I don't read his trash except when I see it in one of these posts. In the Marine Corp he was what we called a "feather merchant"!
