Schaub has bursitis

Schaub spent Tuesday night in the hospital and missed practice on Wednesday due to "a bursa sac issue" in his right knee. They expect him back tomorrow. Orlovsky practiced with the first team in his absence.

Sounds like he'll be a go for Sunday...

Rumor is they really like Leinart and are going to try to keep him. If that is so, I don't expect Orlovsky back next year... Too bad we can't have a "laugher" occasionally where the backup QB's get some action....

Actually, re: who's #2 and who's #3, it is like the radio guys just said: Leinart was a latecomer and needed time to learn the playbook and system. Not like Grossman last year who went through a full camp and won the #2 job in the Tampa Bay preseason game. Leinart probably should have the playbook down by now but has not had any real time snaps. Kind of hard to beat someone out for a job if neither of you sees the field....

I like Leinart - at his best, he's a dart throwin' Steve Young v.2. He had that nice game the night of the now famous Denny Green meltdown ("They are who we thought they were!"). If Matt were to go down, I'd rather have Leinart in there than DanO.... JMO.

To me Leinert is very comparable to Schaub: tall, real big but not very athletic at all with only average arm strength. It would really be nice to have a QB here with some mobility to take full advantage of the roll-out, play-action stuff, though I suppose DanO is descent in that department.

Schaub says he’s ‘good to go’

“There’s no doubt in my mind I’ll be playing Sunday,” Schaub said. “It feels good. It felt good to get out there to practice and get ready to go.”

Schaub took “about half” his normal reps during the workout, coach Gary Kubiak said. “He’s feeling a lot better. ... We’ve got to make sure Dan (Orlovsky) is ready to go and getting good work, but everything looks OK (with Schaub).”

Schaub admitted his short hospital stay, the purpose of which was to get him off the leg for an extended period of time, had him “going stir-crazy. But they got a (play)book over to me and practice film” so he wasn’t completely out of the loop.

Kubiak said Schaub will start against the Jets “unless there are setbacks.” He predicted today’s final on-field tune-up would offer a clearer picture of how his quarterback was coming around.

Although Schaub admitted the knee has been “bothering him for the duration of the season” and that “it flared up on Tuesday, a little out of the ordinary” following the Jacksonville game, he insisted he wouldn’t be limited in any way against the Jets.

“I’m good to go,” he said.

That’s imperative, given how ferociously the Jets attack opposing quarterbacks.

“They’re one of the top defenses,” Schaub said. “They show a lot of different looks and bring a lot of different (kinds of) pressure. You’ve got to be on top of your stuff and not give them extra opportunities, especially playing in their place.”

Added Kubiak: “Matt can look at a game plan and go play. But against (the Jets), you want to see as much as you can because of how aggressive they are. You could practice for the next year and not cover everything they do on defense.”

Schaub insisted he wasn’t hurt in Jacksonville and that “coming in to work out Monday, it was fine.”

Schaub, who became the Texans’ starting quarterback in 2007, last missed a game in 2008, when he sprained his left knee at Minnesota. He said his bursitis, a condition caused by an inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs in the knee), won’t require postseason surgery.

They both do. Leinart signed a one-year deal with a $630,000 base plus $23,125 for each game that he's the #2 QB. When the Texans signed Leinart, they convinced Orlovsky to restructure his contract (in other words, they said redo your deal or you'll be cut) so he now has an $850,000 base plus $25,000 for each game that he's #2.
