Texans sign free agent TE Michael Gaines
Free-agent TE Michael Gaines has agreed to a one-year deal with the Texans, according to a league source.
Gaines has bounced around during his six NFL seasons, starting his career with the Panthers and later playing for the Bills, Lions, Bears and Browns. He started seven of nine games for the Browns in 2009, making five catches for 59 yards and one touchdown http://blogs.nfl.com/2010/04/23/vete...r-texans-deal/ Just came across this (I don's see it posted elsewhere in this website ?), so they signed this guy yesterday and just drafted another TE today. Whatever ? |
Owen Daniel is not cleared to practice, Dreessen is coming off surgery, Hill had a surgery IIRC, so they have only one healthy TE coming into minicamp next week. Can't practice without healthy bodies.
The pick of Graham tells me that Dreessen and or Hill will not make the team. |

The way I hear it is OD won't be cleared for full contact until pretty far into training camp this July, or not until August, or even September. Dreesen they like pretty well. I didn't know about his surgery. 4th rounder Hill had surgery on his leg I believe. So that leaves only James Casey, and he is more of an H/back. So the rook in the 4th round this year, Graham Garrett makes a little more sense. They also signed one in F/A, but I don't know who.

They can find FAs on the street to play in summer camp and even pre-season games if necessary (like yesterdays signing), but I doubt that they will use a 4th round pick just to grab a guy to have him around for practice and exhibition games. 4th rounders are faily valuable Draft picks.

This makes about what, 7 or 8 TEs on the roster now? They can't all make it into TC. Some will be gone after the first OTA probably.
