Official Texans @ Jaguars Game Thread, 12/6/2009

The 5-6 Texans head off to Jacksonville this Sunday to play the Jaguars. The bad news for the Texans is that they are on a 3 game losing streak.... The good news is that the Kubiak regime is 10-5 in December (4-1 in 2008). The Texans are 2-4 in games decided by a touchdown or less.

The 6-5 Jags themselves have had a bit of an up and down year and play their best when at home. They are 5-1 in games decided by a touchdown or less.

Oddsmakers currently have the game tottering as a "pick'em".

The announcers will be ItB favorites Gus Johnson and Steve Tasker.

CBS @ noon Sunday

TheMatrix31 12-01-2009 06:34 PM

Oh....NOW they send in Gus and Steve.

I bet our record with them announcing is ridiculously good.

Nconroe 12-02-2009 03:27 AM

All we gotta do this week is the team gets their head on right, doesn't make the dumb inexcusable idiotic penalties and dumb poor read turnovers, and figures out how to play on every play four quarters, we should have a good shot at a win. or else. I still think they can make it atleast to 9-7 and play for 10-6 against NE, then we'll see.

I think it may be. I can remember that Tasker has seen some pretty lousy Texan performances in the past before. I'm not sure if he was paired with Gus Johnson at the time or not...

Johnson/Tasker is like the bottom rung for CBS. There have been some weekends this year when they didn't even work - not enough games to go round. :o

But Gus can be very entertaining sometimes and though I didn't like Tasker too much at first, he's kind of grown on me....

Since they get the Texans a lot, I like that they are, at least, familiar with the team...

Fonz the Boss 12-02-2009 07:05 AM

The good news about this game is that we have 3 road wins this year.... We suck at home.

nunusguy 12-02-2009 01:19 PM

After feeling "relatively" confidant about our changes in the Colts game, now I have no idea, no feel for this upcoming game except to wonder if the
team is still into the season or is it now past tense to them ? Therefor it will be interestifng to see what their energy level is in FLA Sunday when they hit the field ?

I don't actively follow the odds, but this line is interesting. The Texans are going on the road to play an opponent with (1) a better W-L record and (2) a road victory against the Texans already this season.

Vegas seems to have some confidence in the Texans. Also, tarps don't wager, so maybe that's a factor, too.

Mike 12-03-2009 01:27 PM

Shocker, the game will be blacked out in J-Ville. There is no home field advantage so even if the few Hags fans that have their own teeth actually try to make noise, it should not be an issue for the offense.

I might try to get a cheap last minute ticket and fly out to support the guys.

The CBS JV crew will probably not have a ton of cameras, making challenges interesting.

i think the nfl rules require them to have the same number of cameras at every game, though i could be wrong

From the chron:

Texans' Slaton expected to miss game with arm

Quote:

Texans running back Steve Slaton is expected to miss Sunday's game against Jacksonville because of numbness in his arms.

The numbness is a result of a previously undisclosed shoulder injury. Coach Gary Kubiak did not completely rule out Slaton, but the fact he did not practice Friday makes it unlikely he will play.

"It's something he has been dealing with for awhile but it's gotten worse in the last 24 hours," Kubiak said.

Left tackle Duane Brown, who suffered a knee injury against the Colts, went through practice and is expected to play.

I want to be optimistic but I think we go out in a blaze of glory.

In other words, we lose the same way we been losing. Putting up statistics and still coming away with an L.

Nconroe 12-06-2009 09:48 AM

Jacoby Jones missed the flight. not a good behavior at all. He's a contributor, but no excuse. What I heard, from Jacoby's side, he was late for preflight meeting by 10 minutes due to ice on the bridges , but Kubiak was upset, or wanted to send a message that need to be there, and told him to go home. not that he missed the flight.

Nconroe 12-06-2009 09:59 AM

One of the things to win this game is we need to stop MJD running with our defense.

And, with Slayton out, perhaps Chris Bown and Moats need to have a good running day for our side.

No turnovers by anybody, or atleast not on our side of 50 yard line would for sure help a bunch.

Be nice to see less dumb penalties. Maybe coach needs to sit guys for a while if they do one of those dumb penalties.

Arky 12-06-2009 11:42 AM

Don't forget to set your DVRs.....

Dang, JJ needs to leave the house earlier....

In other NFL games, I'm not sure who I want to lose more in Colts vs. Titans....

Arky 12-06-2009 12:04 PM

Houston win the toss and defers.

Jags bring the kickoff back to their 19.

MJD TFL -2. Brings up 2nd and 12.

Pass to Wolford good for 7. 3rd and 5 coming up.

Pass to Thomas good and he reaches for the 1st down.

Pass to Lewis big gainer - 47 yards. Ball at the Texan 24.

MJD for 1. Brings up 2nd and 9.

2nd down pass is batted down by Cody. 3rd and 9 coming up.

Garrard is smoked by several for a sack. A Smith gets the credit. -10.

Jags to attempt the 51 yard FG.

FG is good.

Jags 3, Texans 0

Keith 12-06-2009 12:10 PM

Busing looked pwned by Lewis on that deep gainer.

Texans got the big sack on third down to push the FG back to 51 yards, which looks like the 11th sack allowed by the Jags this year. Telling stat not just for the Jags o-line, but for David Garrard. He is usually a pretty smart QB that doesn't lose a lot games for his team with dumb decisions.

Arky 12-06-2009 12:14 PM

Correction: Barwin and Smith get credit for .5 sack each on previous series.

Kickoff by the Jags sails out of the endzone so Texans ball at the 20.

On 1st down, Schaub sacked for -2. Schaub shaken up. Grossman in.

2nd down pass goes inc.

Oh no, Grossman's 3rd down pass is tipped downfield and INT'ed by the Jags who bring it all the way back to the Texan 18.

Keith 12-06-2009 12:16 PM

And the Cannon is in.

If Schaub is out for the game, he is going to ruin more than a few fantasy games this weekend.

...and Rex is bound to do the same to the Texans. Picked already!

Arky 12-06-2009 12:18 PM

MJD for 6. 2nd and 4 coming up from the Texan 12.

2nd down pass goes inc. 3rd and 4 coming up.

QB draw comes up short of the 1st down and the Jags will go for it on 4th and 1.

QB sneak gets the 1st down.

MJD for 4 puts the ball inside the 5.

MJD for 3. Ball is at the 1 - 3rd and goal coming up.

MJD gets a 1/2 yard. 4th and a half yard for the TD. Del Rio challenges that MJD made it in.

Keith 12-06-2009 12:23 PM

I don't think there is a head coach I despise more than Del Rio.

As for Colts vs. Titans, I think you have to hope the Titans lose to help keep the playoff hopes alive, errrr keep the Texans out of the AFC South cellar.

That's some pretty awesome goalline defense there by the LBs. First DeMeco kept out MJD on 2nd down, then Diles did it on 3rd down, then Cushing and Adibi did the job on 4th. Sweet.

sinnister 12-06-2009 12:23 PM

It's not a promising start........

Arky 12-06-2009 12:24 PM

Ruling on the field stands. Jags to go for it on 4th down.

MJD is stopped! Texans with the goal line stand.

Texans ball at their own 1.

sinnister 12-06-2009 12:25 PM

That was a great stand though!!!!

HPF Bob 12-06-2009 12:26 PM

Looked obviously to me that Schaub hurt his *left* shoulder, possibly a separation or a sprain. If Schaub is tough, he can play through it since it is his non-passing shoulder.

But it's probably Rex Cutler's show for the rest of the day. Not looking good, despite the GREAT GOAL LINE STAND our defense just made.

Arky 12-06-2009 12:27 PM

On 1st down, Grossman can't find anyone open and throws it away.

Pass to KW good for 7. Brings up 3rd and 3.

C Brown stopped for no gain so Texans have to punt.

Jags bring the punt back to midfield.

Arky 12-06-2009 12:32 PM

On 1st down, DeMeco with the sack! -7. Brings up 2nd and 17.

MJD for 7. Brings up 3rd and 10.

Pass interference on the Jags makes it 3rd and 20 from the Jags 40.

3rd down pass sails inc. so the Jags have to punt.

Martinez brings the punt back to the 13 but flag on the play. Illegal block in the back on F Bennett = 1/2 the distance.

Arky 12-06-2009 12:37 PM

Texans ball at their own 6.

Moats for about 10. 1st down.

Moats for 4.

Moats for about 3 more. Brings up 3rd and 3.

Grossman's pass slightly behind AJ so Texans have to punt.

Turk shanks the punt for a 23 yard net. Jags ball at the Texan 46.

chuck 12-06-2009 12:38 PM

Need I say it? Yet another idiotic penalty committed by Marciano's special teams unit. I can't tell you how happy I am that this will be the last year I have to see that assclown on the sidelines in Texans gear.

Did anyone else get an email inviting you to some sort of Texans chalk talk at the training bubble in a week or so? Joe Marciano is going to talk about football. For $25 a person. I almost spit up my apple juice I was laughing so hard.

Hey! Look at that! They put Moats in and he immediately starts gaining positive yardage! Whodathunk it?

I swear, Kubiak is just mindbogglingly stupid. Where the hell has Moats been these last three games?

TheMatrix31 12-06-2009 12:39 PM

Oh, Rexy!

*sigh*

Roy P 12-06-2009 12:41 PM

So, for the Schaub disrespecters out there, what will the outcome of this game show? If Rex can get a win, will there be more talk about Schaub being a good QB stat-wise, but just "not a winner"? If Rex can't get a victory, then would people see that not every team can have Peyton Manning or Tom Brady as their starting QB?

Arky 12-06-2009 12:44 PM

Jennings for 3. 2nd and 7 coming up.

2nd down pass broken up by Dunta.

On 3rd and 7, pass is good to Holt for 8 and the 1st down.

Deep pass to Hughes perfectly executed over Reeves for the TD. 35 yards.

Jags 10, Texans 0

I've seen Grossman throw, what, five passes now? And I already know that Schaub is better than he is. I also know that Garrard is better than either of them.

Another penalty on the return. Unbelievable. What a bunch of slapdicks.

Arky 12-06-2009 12:49 PM

AD brings the kickoff back to the 25. Flag on the Texans for holding = 1/2 the distance. Ball at the Texan 15.

Pass to KW good for 20.

Dump to C Brown good for 5.

C Brown for 4. Brings up 3rd and 1 at the Texan 45.

QB sneak gets the 1st down.

Grossman bootlegs for 8. 2nd and 2 coming up.

Moats hits the corner for 7. Ball at the Jags 38.

Grossman fumbles - Texans lose 4.

2nd down pass is tipped inc. Flag on the play. No foul ruled.

In what aspect of being an NFL quarterback is Matt Schaub clearly better than David Garrard?

Arky 12-06-2009 12:54 PM

On 3rd and 14, Grossman's pass never gets launched = inc. Texans have to punt.

Turk's punt goes into the endzone so it will be the Jags ball at their own 20.

chuck 12-06-2009 12:57 PM

And Turk booms it into the end zone when he has 20 yards of sideline to work with. See, this is what I don't get. Kubaik and Marciano are standing placidly on the sidelines watching the proceedings like nothing is amiss whatsoever. I distinctly recall seeing Bill Parcells CHARGE onto the field to tear his punter a new asshole for doing the same stupid thing. That's the difference between a real NFL coach and an inept pussy like Kubiak. One will not tolerate anything other than excellence, the other doesn't know what excellence is so he certainly can't demand it.
