Official Texans @ Browns Thread, 11/23/2008

Gonna be a little chilly for the Texans today as temps are right around freezing.

Texans inactives are:
8 QB Matt Schaub
37 FB Cecil Sapp
47 SS Will Demps
53 LB Kevis Coley
64 G Kasey Studdard
78 T Rashad Butler
87 TE Mark Bruener
97 DT Frank Okam

Changes to the Texans' starting lineup: Sage Rosenfels will start at quarterback for Schaub. Jacques Reeves will start at left cornerback for Fred Bennett. Dunta Robinson will start at right cornerback for Reeves.

Browns inactives are:
11 QB Ken Dorsey
23 DB Travis Daniels
42 DB Hamza Abdullah
53 LB Kris Griffin
79 OL Scott Young
83 WR Steve Sanders
86 TE Martin Rucker
91 DL Shaun Smith

Changes to the Browns' starting lineup: Santonio Thomas will start at right defensive end for Smith.

Arky 11-23-2008 10:57 AM

Time to give the Browns the thrashing they so richly deserve...

Arky 11-23-2008 12:15 PM

Texans receive the opening kickoff and AD returns it to about the 31 but holding penalty knocks it back to the 21.

-------------

Texans move the ball down the field with short passes and runs burning up about 8 minutes of clock. Rosenfels hits Walter for the 17 yd TD to cap it off.

Texans 7, Browns 0

gunslinger57 11-23-2008 12:16 PM

Heckuva catch by Walters.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 12:18 PM

That was a nice opening drive. Good mix of the run and pass. Now let's see what the defense can do.

Arky 11-23-2008 12:24 PM

Fumble!

Defense gets the rare turnover. Texans takeover at the Brown 40.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 12:24 PM

Wow. A fumble recovery. When's the last time that's happened?

gunslinger57 11-23-2008 12:24 PM

What is this when the opponent drops the ball and our defense jumps on it? What happens now? I don't remember that happening for our defense.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 12:32 PM

Soembody makes an ankle tackle. If not Green is gone.

Arky 11-23-2008 12:32 PM

Texans to go for it on 4th and 1 at the edge of the redzone....

----------------

Greens pops through for the 1st down. Ball at the 12 yard line.

End of the 1st quarter.

Joshua 11-23-2008 12:35 PM

Glad they picked up the 1st on 4th down, but Kubiak continually going for it on 4th down bothers me. Some think it shows confidence in your guys. I think it's the other way around. If you're constantly taking risks that other teams don't take, it says you don't think you can just line up and beat the other team playing by-the-numbers football.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 12:37 PM

What kind of play calling was that? After the opening drive, I'd have a little confidence in Rosencopter.

gunslinger57 11-23-2008 12:38 PM

A draw on 3rd and 13 from the 15. Way to play for the FG, Gary.

Arky 11-23-2008 12:38 PM

Texans get stopped running the ball but get a FG out of it.

Texans 10, Browns 0

I don't mind the going for on 4th though I'd prefer that kind of call on the goal line i.e. Rosenfels INT on goal line against Ravens.

Joshua 11-23-2008 12:42 PM

This is what confuses me. Kubiak goes for it on 4th down but then is conservative and settles for the field goal. I certainly don't have a problem playing conservative after the penalty, particularly with Sage. However, if you aren't willing to let your QB try and make a play and are fine with settling for a field goal, what was the point of going for it on 4th?

Arky 11-23-2008 12:51 PM

Texans kickoff and Browns set up at their 24 yard line.

Browns move the ball down the field and the Texan defense comes up with a redzone stop. Browns get the FG.

Texans 10, Browns 3

Arky 11-23-2008 12:56 PM

Browns kickoff. Touchback, so Texans ball at the 20.

1st play, 21 yards to AJ.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:00 PM

A penalty and a sack kill a promising drive. Texans go for the FG but the FG is blocked. Score remains:

Texans 10, Browns 3

Browns will takeover at their 39.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:04 PM

1st play, Quinn makes Reeves look bad on 43 yard completion. Imagine that.

Big 3rd and 6 for the Browns at the 15 is incomplete.

Browns go for the FG. FG is good.

Texans 10, Browns 6

2:20 left in the half.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:09 PM

Oy, holding on Barber nullifies AD's 93 yard kickoff return.

Texans ball at their own 14.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 01:09 PM

Son of a...holding on the TD return.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:17 PM

Rosenfels is short on 3rd and 1 QB sneak.

Texans go for it and Green picks it up.

:38 seconds left in the half. Ball at the Brown 42.

--------

Another 4th and 3....

AJ big pass to about the Brown 15. :11 seconds left. Texans out of timeouts.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:21 PM

Texans go for the 31 yd. FG with time running out. FG is good.

Texans 13, Browns 6

:03 seconds left in the half.

--------

Texans recover the squibb kick in Brown territory! 1 second left.

K Brown to attempt 56 yarder..... FG is wide right.....

Halftime.

Joshua 11-23-2008 01:27 PM

I'm very curious to see how the D comes out to start the 2nd half. It seems like they give up a TD on the opening drive of the 2nd half every week.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:29 PM

Halftime stats:

Rosenfels: 16/20, 190 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

Rushing: Slaton 7/41, Green 11/32

Receiving: Walter 6/71, Johnson 4/62, Daniels 3/28

Leading Tacklers: Reeves 4, Bentley 2, Ryans 2, Wilson 2

Time of possession: Texans 20:54, Browns 9:06

Ya, what is that expression "waiting for the other shoe to drop"? :p

Arky 11-23-2008 01:40 PM

Texans kickoff, Cribbs returns it to the 25 yard line.

Browns go 3 and out and have to punt.

JJ returns it to about the Texan 30.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 01:46 PM

And RosenSchaub makes an appearance.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:46 PM

Texans driving but Rosenfels throws the pick.

Browns ball at their 45.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 01:49 PM

Well they got it back. Need to make something out of it. They've left six points on the ground with a block and missed FG.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:49 PM

Eheh, Weaver with the pick! Texans get it right back.

Arky 11-23-2008 01:50 PM

Not to mention a kickoff return.... :o

Arky 11-23-2008 01:53 PM

Texan drive fizzles and they elect to go for the FG. 36 yard FG is good.

Texans 16, Browns 6

Arky 11-23-2008 01:56 PM

Texans kickoff and Cribbs returns it all the way to the Brown 38.

Arky 11-23-2008 02:02 PM

Freddy B with the drive stopping INT at the 10 yard line!

(the most rarest of rare by the D - red zone stoppage)

Texans ball.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 02:02 PM

Nice to see someone else besides a Texan QB throws right to the opponent

gunslinger57 11-23-2008 02:02 PM

The Browns got too predictable on 3rd and short. Ran the same slant to the other side of the field. Nice read by Bennett.

TexicanMexican 11-23-2008 02:07 PM

David Anderson replaces Brady Quinn.

Arky 11-23-2008 02:08 PM

Wow, Texans tried twice to give the ball right back but get lucky.

Texans have to punt. Cribbs returns to the Cleveland 25.
