Official Texans vs. 49ers Fake Game Thread, 8/15/2015
Year 2 of the BOB Texans kicks off with a home date against the 49ers.
Win or lose, just stay healthy. |
Here's a roster sorted by jersey number. Prints out on two pages. I find it handy for a quick lookup....
|
Game will be on ABC channel 13 @ 7pm in the Houston area. The "Texan Extra Points" show that comes on @ 6:30 pm (same channel) beforehand is usually a good watch.
No telling how the 49'ers will play - big changes with that team - the arrow is pointing down...... Texans really looked bad in their pre-season opener last year losing 32-0 to the Arizona Cardinals. For the degenerates, the Texans are favored by 2.5.... |
I look forward to overreacting to this game.
|
Fire the Coa..er, Fire the Gene...um, Fire the Owner!
|
I suppose I'm mostly interested how QB look, but it's early.
|
Hoyer is getting the start.

That did not suck.
|
Texans take an 8-0 lead on 58-yard catch and run to Shorts. Quick fastball pass to Hopkins is good for the two points...
Lookin' good so far... |
Hoyer looked pretty good. But I guess I still want Mallet to win the job. He just has the higher ceiling.
|
What, seven plays at point blank range? I understand that they're not using their playbook but that is crazy.
|
Ungood, even if it's not the 1st team OLine.
|
Oy, with Mallet in, the Texans have about 23 chances to punch it in from the 1 yard line and get stonewalled.... Substitutions already happening.... Score remains 8-0, 49'ers ball at their 1 yard line.
Now, end of the 1st quarter. |
And eight. It was the starting interior line. Total garbage. Eight plays to gain two yards. I'm glad I won't be in the OL meeting tomorrow.
|
49ers go the length of the field on a 99-yard drive and get six.
Score = Texans 8, 49ers 7 12:46 left in the half. |
With 3:54 remaining in the half, 49ers kick a 37-yard FG.
49ers 10, Texans 8 |
We have a lot of rookie OLINEMAN out there.
|
Good thing he made that tackle because Finau was definitely a major reason for that long run earlier that set up the 49er TD....
|
Halftime score remains:
49ers 10, Texans 8 |
Chandler Worthy might be earning a spot on special teams....
Texans hold the Niners to a 3-and-out on the opening possession of the 2nd half. Texans ball with 12:53 left in the 3rd quarter. |
Savage to Strong for the 10-yard TD!
Texans 15, Niners 10 9:47 left in the 3rd. |
Ankrah with the Safety. Good job despite it being in the Niners 3rd string QB.
Texans 17, Niners 10 |
I'm very sorry to say this but I would like to see Savage with the ones.
|
Bullock adds a 41-yard FG.
Texans 20, Niners 10 8:51 left in the game. |
Bullock adds another 41-yarder.
Texans 23, Niners 10 58 seconds left in the game. |
Texans kneeling it out.
Final score: Texans 23, Niners 10 All three Texan QB's with a rating of 100+.... |
Teapot did tell us he had some pretty eff'in good eff'in quarterbacks...
OL depth is an issue, and the team sure missed the nose for the goalline that Arian Foster possesses. Kevin Johnson will be a good CB, and it's not like he had a poor game, but he's definitely a rookie. McKinney is lost in coverage. Hopefully RAC subs him out when the games count. After Hop, the WRs aren't dazzlers, but there's depth there. I hope I see something I like more from Rahim Moore. Was a little concerned about Mallett's health after the late hit and after he didn't immediately return to the sideline in the 3rd quarter. Mike Mohammed was slow getting up after making a solid play... just want these guys avoiding injury. Complaining about Preseason Week 1 playcalling is a waste of life, but the QB keeper when you need 4 yards is a headscratcher. BOB must be playing mind games with Andy Reid already. |
The QB sneak was weird. If you sneak on 3rd and 4 part of the reason is because you are going for it if you get half the yards. Then they punt on 4th and a foot at midfield.
Blue has great versatility (runs it, catches it, blocks ok, plays ST). His versatility does not include short yardage. He was bad there last year and is still bad. Getting into the stadium was brutal. I was less than a mile away at 6:20 and I sat down past 7:30. And the NFL wonders why people want to watch on TV instead of going to the games? If the tickets weren't free I would have been very upset. |

Might be a little premature, but I saw enough good things from Savage to say he can (at least) be the future #2. For example, one of Hoyer/Mallett can be dropped next year and the Texan can go back to carrying just two QB's with maybe a project on the PS. Just keep the Hoyer/Mallett "survivor" of 2015 plus Savage for next year....
Mallett wasn't able to get on the scoreboard but 10/11 passing makes for a good argument against his "inconsistencies". The 7 runs on the goalline with no success was a bit of a headscratcher.... I dunno, maybe after about the 5th attempt, fake the run and throw a short pass next time? A lot of very good prospects among the new guys but many are going to be cut because there just isn't any room for them.... |
