Official Texans vs Cowboys Fake Game Thread, 8/29/2013
The final preseason game will be on ABC13Local starting at 7pm tonight.
Mostly backup and special teams battles to make last few spots on 53 man roster and then to practice squad. And Wade Phillips first shot at his previous job with Cowboys, fwiw. Apparently Betting Lines (via Covers) Over/Under: 37.5 pts. Spread: Dallas (+2.5) So hoping Texans can win the battle of Texas. |
What sort of lunatic bets on preseason games?
|
I'll take the over and give the points. Yates and Keenum are moving the offense.
:D Thanks NConroe for getting the thread going. I've got a baseball team to coach tonight, so I'll be playing catch-up when I get back. Don't let anyone get hurt while I'm gone. |

I just had a parlay on MLB - Oakland and LA Angels. Bet 5 pts to win 26 pts. The Angels came through and won their game 2-0. Oakland was ahead 6-3 going into the bottom of the ninth. I'm starting to count my windfall. Tori "effing" Hunter comes up and smacks a 3 run walk-off home run. Poof! I lose 5 pts instead of winning 26. :( Bad beats are so common in gambling.... A lot more common than the reverse (seems like).... I've got the Texan -2.5 for 8 pts (to win 7.27 pts) tonight. As Keith mentioned, I'm betting on Yates and Keenum to march the ball down the field like they've done so far... FYI, current line on the Texans 1st game against SD is Texans by 3. |
Texans rush their way down the field for the game's first score. Nice running by D Johnson and C Wood. Keenum had a couple of completed passes.
Texans 7, Cowboys 0 6:37 left in the first quarter. |
Lechler is out of control.
|
Is Andrew Gardner seriously being considered for a job in the NFL? As a player, I mean?

Texans pinned in at their own 2 with 13:49 left in the half.
|
I know Gary's going to go with Karim for his experience, but I'd sure favor Wood over him. He's seems to have another gear that Karim doesn't have.
|
Cowboys put together a drive and get a FG, 38-yarder with 5:04 left in the half.
Texans 7, Cowboys 3 |
Nice pass by Keenum to hit Jean up top for the 27-yard TD pass down the sideline.
Texans 14, Cowboys 3 1:47 left in the half. |
Halftime ends with same score:
Texans 14, Cowboys 3 Keenum = 9/13, 128 yards, 1 TD, 126.4 Rating Griffin = 4 catches for 70 yds Jean = 2 catches, 32 yards, 1 TD Wood = 8/78 rushing, 9.8 avg. Johnson = 7/43 rushing, 6.1 avg, 1 TD, 1 fumble lost |
Yates in at QB.
Texans take the 2nd half kickoff down the field but have to settle for the Bullock 39-yard FG. Texans 17, Cowboys 3 11:43 left in the 3rd quarter. |
Cierre Wood does a lot of good things.
|
Yates hits Cruse dragging over the middle for the TD catch.
Texans 24, Cowboys 3 15 seconds left in the 3rd quarter. |
Nice interception by Buyue.
|
Texans 7 sacks to 0 for cowgirls in this fake game.
Texans have Governor's Cup back where it should be. Some tough cuts coming up. |
Cowboys kick a FG with 29 seconds left in the game.
Texans 24, Cowboys 6 |
I don't care if it's a pre-season game, the Super Bowl or a charity softball game, beating the hell out of the Cowboys is always good.
|
In his post game presser, Kubiak announced Travardo rolled his ankle.
How convenient........ |
All tonight really proved is that our depth is better than their depth.
I made the mistake of recording the Cowboys telecast instead of the Texans one (both were available in Austin) and it was tolerable until the second-half where they held about a 20-minute love-fest between Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant  (if there were smilies for gag and puke I would have added those). Cierre Wood would have rushed for over 150 yds were it not for penalties and Babe Laufenberg said correctly, "He (Wood) has made somebody's roster tonight. They (the Texans) won't be able to hide him after tonight." Meanwhile, Dennis Johnson loses a fumble and muffs three punts (losing one erased on a Dallas penalty), has some nice runs and I'll bet you anything the Texans will cut Wood and keep Johnson. (more gag, puke smilies). Other than that, a satisfying win. |

Now Cushings return so far from his ACL is impressive, but the Texans' comeback player of the year award has got to go to Posey. Achilles injury in the playoffs vs NE, and now he's back on the field making plays including that nice catch over the middle last night just 7 months after being carted off of the field. And finally got a glimpse of Brennan Williams: the big boy has some mobility, can get down field. Maybe it's not too late for him to help us this year ? |

If the Texans cut Wood to try and get him on their PS, I will be quite unhappy. Of the three (Wood, Johnson, Graham), I thought Wood seemed like the one whose college success wouldn't translate as well, and boy was I wrong. I love his slash-n-go style of downfield running. He isn't messing around. I was surprised Johnson had the trouble fielding punts. Talent is there too. Guys like Karim, and maybe including Karim himself, are going to be around on waivers. The upside that Wood and Johnson have is just too good. Lechler. The man. I was also pretty happy with TE Ryan Griffin. He's gonna fit right in here for sure. Watching the defense, it is easy to see how suspect they are to the screens. And my fear going into the Chargers game is that the screen will be their best and only offensive play, so hopefully Wade realizes this and tries to keep from blitzing 5 players every down. |
