Official Texans @ Jaguars Game Thread, 11/27/2011

And so begins the Matt Leinart era... at least the 2011 era.

edit... Steve Mariucci on the NFL Net's "Bold Predictions" segment said that Leinart is getting over 300 yards passing today.

HPF Bob 11-27-2011 11:40 AM

Just manage the game and get the win. I'm not looking for Leinart to be a stat machine. I just want him to complete some throws early then let Foster and Tate do their thing.

WMH 11-27-2011 11:50 AM

Ten bucks says Kubes comes out slingin it.

Arky 11-27-2011 12:03 PM

Jags win the toss and will receive.

Hartmann's kickoff goes out of the endzone so Jags ball at their 20.

Nconroe 11-27-2011 12:05 PM

Defense.

Nice to see 3 and out

Yikes, in a hole on Fosters fumble

Arky 11-27-2011 12:06 PM

MJD sweeps right for 3. 2nd and 7 coming up.

Pass in the flat is too high, inc. 3rd and 7 coming up.

Gabbert's pass is deflected by Watt, inc. Jags have to punt.

JJ fields the punt and steps out of bounds at the Texan 41.

Keith 11-27-2011 12:06 PM

J.J. Watt plays like a 10-yr vet. How awesome was that draft pick?

Arky 11-27-2011 12:07 PM

Rollout pass is complete to KW for about 8. 2nd and 2 coming up.

Oh no, Foster fumbles on the sweep right, Youboty picks it up and takes it to the house for a Jags TD. 38 yards.

Jags 7, Texans 0

13:38 left in the 1st quarter.

Keith 11-27-2011 12:09 PM

Good grief. Andre forced that fumble. Welcome back.

Arky 11-27-2011 12:14 PM

Nice return on the ensuing kickoff by McManis. Brings it back to the Texan 46.

Pass to Foster goes for 8. 2nd and 2 coming up.

Short pass to OD complete but he gets tripped up and loses a yard. 3rd and 3 coming up.

Whoa, pass to Mason is almost INT'ed but inc. Texans have to punt.

Jags fair catch the punt at their 8 yard line.

chuck 11-27-2011 12:15 PM

Kubes is letting Leinart play. I like it. I don't want to get too far away from pounding the ball and I would expect to see Tate next series, but I like the approach.

Nconroe 11-27-2011 12:15 PM

Now really need defense .
Just stay calm, long way to go.

WMH 11-27-2011 12:18 PM

Totally agree. Not the start we needed, but we should hold our own against their O. Good time to tinker a bit.

Arky 11-27-2011 12:19 PM

MJD gets 18. 1st down Jags at their 26.

MJD for 4. 2nd and 6 coming up.

Short pass to MJD goes for 5. Nice tackle by GQ. Jags have to punt.

Keo might've gotten a piece of the punt as it only travels 25 yards. Texans ball at their 41.

Arky 11-27-2011 12:40 PM

Pass to AJ is good for 24 but they get AJ for PI. Makes it 1st and 20.

Pass is a little high to Dreessen, inc. Flags down. Offsetting penalties. Replay the down.

Tate gets about 2. 2nd and 18 coming up.

Dump off to Foster gets 6. 3rd and 12 coming up.

Dump to KW only gets 7 so Texans have to punt.

Hartmann's punt goes into the endzone so Jags ball at their 20.

Arky 11-27-2011 12:48 PM

10:44 left in the half.

Keith 11-27-2011 12:57 PM

Leinart needs to pass to a WR. The Jaguars aren't giving him much respect downfield, and they're really clogging the middle.

Kubes, where is the bootleg?

Arky 11-27-2011 12:57 PM

Kickoff goes out of the endzone. Texans ball at their 20.

Foster for no gain. 2nd and 10 coming up.

barrett 11-27-2011 12:58 PM

I told you guys. You can call downfield plays but it is still up to the QB whether he pulls the trigger or checks down. Schaub was hitting more big plays than ever this year even if he threw it less overall.

Leinhart has 7 completions today for 32 yards.

Arky 11-27-2011 01:01 PM

MJD for 3. 2nd and 7 coming up.

Gabbert pressured, can't find a receiver and throws it away. 3rd and 7 coming up.

The guy hasn't played in three years. Give him a little time. That TD throw while not a deep ball was an NFL quality throw.

Keith 11-27-2011 01:08 PM

It was under pressure, too. That was going to be a bootleg it seemed.

Hopefully it gives Leinart the confidence he needs. Surprised there haven't been more short passes designed for Andre called yet. Need to work off his rust too.

barrett 11-27-2011 01:09 PM

It was a great throw. I still think without stretching it vertically we will be in trouble against a good team. I hope we make him stretch it even though we can win without it today.

Barrett, you're one of the more incisive posters around who rarely jumps to conclusions or posts out of emotion. This post is fairly out of character for you. Surprised to see you claiming vindication after basically a quarter and a half. You're better than that.

Arky 11-27-2011 01:10 PM

Jags bring the kickoff back to their 24, fumble, but recover their fumble.

Gabbert's pass is batted down. 2nd and 10 coming up.

Pass too high for Lewis, inc. 3rd and 10 coming up.

Pass is picked off by JJo! Nice return on the INT. Texans ball at the Jags 34.

barrett 11-27-2011 01:12 PM

Look how close Jax was to the LOS on a 3rd and 9.

Arky 11-27-2011 01:12 PM

Dump off to Foster is dropped. 2nd and 10 coming up.

Foster for 1. Makes it 3rd and 9.

Dump off to Foster loses 2. Texans to try the long FG.

Rackers 53-yarder is good!

Andre said that Jacksonville is dropping two safeties very deep and that the dump offs over the middle are absolutely open and that they are the correct read and response to what the defense is doing.

WMH 11-27-2011 01:14 PM

Our D better wakeTFU.

He was this guy for his whole NFL and college career. He looks identical now. He's checked it down every time he had a choice. That's not comfort, it's just who he is. Not based on a quarter and a half but based on a career of evidence.

On 3rd and 9 they had 10 guys within 7 yards of the LOS on the snap with one high safety. No fear.

Arky 11-27-2011 01:21 PM

Karim brings the ensuing kickoff back to the Jags 32.

MJD goes right side for 29 yards.

Dump off to Lewis goes for 2. Nice tackle GQ. 2nd and 8 coming up at the Texan 37.

Pass to Dillard goes for 3. 3rd and 5 coming up.

2 minute warning.

------------------------

Gabbert is sacked by Barwin -2! Makes it 4th and 8. Scobee on for the 55 yard FG....

FG is no good...

Score remains:

Texans 17, Jags 10

Isn't his whole nfl career something like 17 starts with this being his first in 3 years? That's a pretty small sample size.

Look, you very well may be right and i'm under no illusions that we have the second coming of tom brady. However, let the guy shake some rust off before burying him.

Arky 11-27-2011 01:28 PM

Texans ball at their 45.

Leinart pressured dumps the pass, inc. Leinart hurt on the play. 2nd and 10 coming up.

Timeout Texans with 1:41 left in the half.

----------

TJ Yates in.

Foster for 10.

On 1st and 10, pass to OD gets 5.

Pass to JJ gets 10.

Pass to OD goes all the way to the Jags 6 yard line. 41 seconds left in the half.

Yates can't find a receiver and chunks it out of the endzone. They get Yates for intentional grounding, 10 second runoff. 1st and goal from the 16.

Foster for no gain.

Yates spikes it with 6 seconds left in the half.

Rackers is on for the FG and makes good on a 33-yarder.

Texans 20, Jags 10

WMH 11-27-2011 01:28 PM

Unfreakingbelieveable........:mad::(:eek:

Keith 11-27-2011 01:30 PM

I'm on the T.J. Yates bandwagon. Who's with me?

chuck 11-27-2011 01:30 PM

I wonder if Yates will look downfield. Maybe Casey after Yates goes down.
