Official Texans vs 49'ers Fake Game Thread, 8/27/2011
Should see the starters for 2 or 3 quarters.... JoJo playing tonight...
Another good test for the new defense against the Niner run game..... |
Hope we win and hope nobody gets hurt.
|
Would love to see Tate get most of the work tonight and rest Foster much of the game. We already know what Foster can do and have already seen him perform in top condition. We only risk getting him injured now the more we play him.
Supposedly, J. Joseph will get his first look at corner for us and I will watch with interest how he is doing. Would love to see plenty of Watt and Reid, particularly in the backfield. |
Texans win the toss and will receive.
McManis brings the kick back to the Texan 19. |
Haha, Schaub throws an INT on the dump pass and it's returned for a TD... Oh boy.... Brooks with the INT....
Niners 7, Texans 0 |
McManis returns this kickoff just to the Texan 15. Texans ball.
Dump to Foster goes for about 12 down the left sideline. Schaub hits AJ over the middle for a big gainer. Ball at the Niner 44. Foster for 3 up the middle. 2nd and 7 coming up. Foster goes right side for about 5. Brings up 3rd and 2. Dump pass to Foster gets the ball to the Niner 27. 1st down. Ward for about 1. Pass to Casey gets 6 but flag in the secondary. Holding on Niners, 5 yards, auto 1st down. Ball at the Niner 22. Bootleg pass is good to AJ and goes to the Niner 10. 1st and goal. Foster for about 1. 2nd and goal at the 9. Pass too tall for OD. Makes it 3rd and goal at the 9. Pass too tall for JJ in the endzone. Texans to go for the FG. Rackers 27 yarder is good. Niners 7, Texans 3 9:37 left in the 1st quarter. |
I wonder how many more passes Jacoby Jones has to drop before someone raises an eyebrow?
|
Jacoby Jones is not a professional football player. I am tired of his drops and his bad routes and his inability to make a challenging catch. The team is going to waive two, three, four other WRs that catch on with other teams and have decent (or better) careers while they keep Jones.
|
Dixon brings the kickoff back to the Niner 24 yard line.
---------------------- Dixon for about 3 up the middle. Pass to Ginn good for 8 and the 1st down. Dixon for 3. 2nd and 7 coming up. Dixon for 2. 3rd and 5 coming up. Sack by Barwin! Loss of 6. Niners have to punt. JJ returns the punt about 5 yards but Niners horse-collared him on the tackle, 15 yards. Ball at the Texan 46. |
Schaub got his weekly WTF interception out of the way early.
Texans moving the ball well on the past two drives. Niners are a "where-are-they-now" trivia answer. Donte Whitner. Ted Gimp Jr. |
Foster for 5 on the right side.
Pass to Casey goes to the Niner 32. 1st down. Foster for about 2. Foster sneaks thru for about 5. Makes it 3rd and 3. Pass over the middle to KW gets 4 and the 1st down. Schaub can't find anyone open and hits the deck. Flag on the play. Holding on Texans -10. Makes it 1st and 20 at the Niner 30. Foster gets 9 back. 2nd and 11 coming up. Foster injured on the play but gets off the field. Pass to AJ is off his hands and INT'ed but Niners with the PI - Texans keep the ball with an auto 1st down. Ball at the Niner 14. Ward for about 3. Pass over the middle to AJ gets inside the 1 yard line. 1st and goal at the 1. Big pass rush makes Schaub throw it away... 2nd and goal coming up. Ward jumps it in for the TD. Texans 10, Niners 7 33 seconds left in the 1st quarter. |
So Foster's hurt. As in seriously hurt. This will surely be another excuse for the Kubiapologists.

Kickoff by the Texans goes out of the endzone. Niners ball at their 20.
---------------------- Dump to Morgan gets about 9. End of the 1st quarter. |

I'm watching the game over the internets and have the SF feed so if any of you watching the KTRK feed have any insight on Foster's condition don't be shy. |
A Smith on the sack! Loss of 8. Makes it 3rd and 9.
Pass to Ginn is complete but he's is out of bounds. Niners have to punt. JJ returns the punt about 3 yards to the Texan 36. |
Foster hopped and went down, slammed his fist, yanked off his helmet and hobbled to the sideline and then to the locker room under his own power. The booth is speculating it's a pulled hammy. I suspect they are getting an MRI to start with.
If true, not a season-ender, but might cost him 2-4 weeks. |

Foster seemed more upset than injured. I'm hoping its all just precautionary measures...
|
Pass to KW goes for big gainer. Ball at the Niner 48.
Tate for 5. Makes it 2nd and 5. Pass to AJ ruled inc, trapped... 3rd and 5 coming up. Pass to OD is inc but Niners offsides. Makes it 3rd and a foot. Ward on the right side comes up short. Makes it 4th and a foot. Texans to go for it. Schaub sneaks for 2 and the 1st down. Dump to Casey gets 2. Ward rumbles for about 5. 3rd and 3 coming up. Dump over the middle to OD goes all the way to the Niner 9 yard line. 1st and goal. Tate for about 5 but flag down. Holding on Casey -10. 1st and goal at the 20. Schaub can't find anyone open and throws it away. 2nd down coming up. Tate on the draw for about 8. 3rd and goal at the 12. Pass to OD in the endzone is good for the TD. Texans 17, Niners 7 |
Bob Allen confirms Foster's injury is his hamstring.

Adibi has a stinger. Quin is nicked.Barber just hurt his knee in the kickoff return but he is up.

Niners return Rackers kickoff back to their 23. Texans D Barber injured on the play.
Dixon for about 6. 2nd and 5 coming up. Rush for about 1. 3rd and 4 coming up. Pass is off the hands of the receiver. Niners have to punt. Nice return by JJ but fumble at the end goes out of bounds. Texans ball at midfield. |
Like I said, Jacoby is not a professional football player. A thirty yard return makes no difference if you don't hold onto the football.
|
Pass to KW gets 15.
Ward gets about 5 but fumbles. Niners recover. Niners ball at their 31. |

Kaepernick's pass is batted down by Watt, inc.
Hunter rushes for about 8 or 9. 3rd and 1 coming up. Hunter gets stopped for -1. 4th and 2 coming up. 2 minute warning. |
The Texans have got to love the weather in Frisco. from 100+ degrees to in the 60s.
That's two penalties on Casey now. |
Niners will punt on 4th down.
JJ brings the punt back for short 5 yards gain but illegal block in back on Casey backs it up. Ball is at the Texan 15. Pass to OD good for 7. Schaub scrambles for 2. Makes it 3rd and 1 with 1:14 left in the half. Pass to OD gets about 8 or 9, 1st down. Pass to OD good for 5 or 6. Pass to AJ gets the 1st down at the Texan 46. Timeout Texans with 45 seconds left. Pass to JJ inc at the sideline. Pass to OD complete and the ball gets poked out of his hands. Niners recover at the the Texan 48. |

1st down pass by Smith sails inc. 24 seconds left.
Pass is INT'ed by Barber! Texans ball at their 38. 13 seonds left. Pass to KW sails inc. 6 seconds left. Tate runs for 11. Halftime. |
It looks like (and it may be a reality) that the Texans are finally good enough to where their mistakes don't immediately doom them against mediocre competition. You can't turn the ball over three times in a half against a real AFC team and expect not to get blown out, but against the 50% of the schedule (or more) that's not elite, maybe they can.
I'd sure like to cut down on the idiotic TOs, though. |
Halftime stats:
Passing: Schaub 14/22, 170 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT Rushing: Foster 8/38, Ward 6/28, Tate 3/22 Receiving: OD 5/53, AJ 3/51, KW 3/35, Casey 2/19, Foster 1/12 Tackles: Cody/Barwin 3 each, Manning/Cushing/Watt 2 each Time of possession: Texans 18:41, Niners 11:19 Turnovers: Texans 3, Niners 2 3rd down efficiency: Texans 4/6, Niners 1/5 Redzone: Texans 2/3, Niners 0/0 Total Yards: Texans 260, Niners 50 Penalties: Texans 4/45, Niners 4/33 |
The turnovers are ugly, but good god, this looks like the varsity scrimmaging the JV. San Francisco is that bad. Is it possible that a guy as competitive as Harbaugh wants to go 0-16 so he can draft Andrew Luck. Because I honestly cannot imagine an NFL team being less talented.
And our defense looks really good even if it is against the Washington Generals. |
Just up the road from Candlestick, the Giants have a 1-0 lead on the Astros. The Giants are starting a pitcher they just called up from AAA but he ought to feel comfortable facing a AAA batting lineup.
