Official Texans @ Eagles Game Thread, 12/2/2010

Short preparation time for the 5-6 Texans this week as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the 7-4 Eagles on Thursday night. Eagles are coming off a 31-26 loss to the Bears in Chicago and looked a bit mortal in doing so - not like the team that had recently rolled over the Redskins and Giants. For the Texans - has their defense finally woken up? Or was their Sunday shutout over the Titans with a 3rd string QB fool's gold? Was holding Chris Johnson to 5 yds rushing fool's gold? We will find out Thursday when they go against the multi-skilled Michael Vick and his many weapons....

TV = NFLN Thursday, 7:20 pm CST

Announcers = Papa, Theisman, Millen

Opening line = Eagles by 7
Current line = Eagles by 7.5-9.5

Set your DVR's.

3.5 hours of hell listening these guys.....

bckey 11-29-2010 10:35 AM

Glad I have to work. This game will be ugly. Announcing and scoring.

NBT 11-29-2010 03:01 PM

I will just let my DVR tape it, and if I like the way it went, I will watch it, otherwise I just erase it. Kubiak better get these guys ready cause they are going to need everthing they can do to beat the Iggles and MV.

Fonz the Boss 11-29-2010 03:26 PM

If AJ doesnt play...

Eagles 31
Texans 14

If AJ plays...

Eagles 31
Texans 28

Nconroe 11-29-2010 05:14 PM

ok, a little optimism, Philly has lost to both Titans and Washington, so they are not invinceable. Although Vic does have himself and other speed weapons on offense. And they have some good DE's.

So, our guys might just win again, if DL is really back and DB's are a little more confident and consistent now. Could be Texans 28 to Philly 27.

TheMatrix31 11-29-2010 06:37 PM

This game will be much closer than everyone thinks.

Arky 11-30-2010 02:41 PM

Well, if the Texans can somehow pull a rabbit out of their butt on Thursday, Sunday will have some games of interests in Houston and most of Texas:

12:00 noon, CBS, Jacksonville vs. Tennessee (Gus Johnson, Steve Tasker)
3:00 pm , CBS, Dallas @ Indy (Joe Buck, Troy Aikman)

Also available:

12:00 noon, Fox, Washington @ NYG (Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa)

chuck 12-02-2010 05:09 PM

How sweet is it that we've had to wait only until Thursday to see our guys take the field again?

I'll tell you in about 5 hours.....;)

WMH 12-02-2010 06:20 PM

HOU inactives: QB Matt Leinart, WR Dorin Dickerson, LB Xavier Adibi, G Kasey Studdard, DE Jesse Nading, TE Owen Daniels, TE Hill, G Smith (Shelley not Wade).

Eagles inactives: Cooper, Samuel, Hughes, Howard, Parker, Wells, Mills and Kafka

Arky 12-02-2010 06:37 PM

Heard an interesting stat a while ago on the radio:

Mike Vick = 0-4 when the temp is under 40º

Houston Texans = 5-0 when the temp is under 40º

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 06:46 PM

Vick led the Falcons to a playoff win at Green Bay in sub-zero conditions a few years ago. I was impressed because the Falcons were a dome team from the South and somebody with the NFL made the genius decision of scheduling a January Lambeau game at night, hoping I'm sure, for the Ice Bowl revisited. Anyway, the stat is bogus. Besides, most of those Texans wins in the cold came when David Carr was the quarterback.

On a better note, Assante Samuel is inactive so the Eagles will be without their best corner.

True on the Green Bay game..... John Lopez on 610 mentioned it - guess he missed one... ND Kalu chimed in about beating Atlanta once in the playoffs in Philly.... I will say, whatever the record actually is, Vick is not noted as a cold weather QB....

As to the Texans cold weather wins I can remember these:

1. Crazy Pittsburgh game where the Texans only had something like 50 yds total offense and won.

2. A win in Chicago

3. Nice win a couple of years ago in Green Bay

Can't remember the other two... Cleveland? Buffalo?

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 07:29 PM

NFLN just showed the AJ fight again, to the cheers of the bar I'm in.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:30 PM

Gametime!

Eagles win the flip and elect to receive.

Eagles return the kick for 102 yards but flag on the play. Holding on Eagles. Bring it back.

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 07:31 PM

Dodged a bullet there. The return guy was completely untouched.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:31 PM

Ball at the Eagles 12.

Vick hits Jackson for 30.

Short pass to sideline gets about 4. Brings up 2nd and 6.

Screen to McCoy goes for 16. 1st down.

Hall rushes for no gain. 2nd and 10 coming up.

Flag pre-snap - offsides Eagles. Makes it 2nd and 15.

Pass to Maclin for small gain 6 yards. Makes it 3rd and 9.

Pass to Celek goes for nice gain. Ball at the Texan 17, 1st down.

Vick scrambles for 3. 2nd and 7 coming up.

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 07:34 PM

Already the speed mismatch between the two units is evident. The Texans are tackling like they'd prefer to keep their hands in their pants to keep warm.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:38 PM

Pass to Maclin for 11, 1st and goal at the 3.

Vick pressured, chunks it away.

Hall takes it to the 1. Makes it 3rd and goal from the 1.

Vick passes to McCoy for the 1 yd. TD.

Eagles 7, Texans 0

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 07:43 PM

About the only good thing to take away from that drive is that the d-line got close to Vick a couple of times.

Close. Horseshoes. Hand grenades.

chuck 12-02-2010 07:43 PM

Bernard Pollard is a joke in coverage.

Mario and Amobi spent a lot of that drive on the sidelines. I don't know what to make of that other than their conditioning might be better.

Slaton brings the return out past the 30! Of course he started at about the 20...

Arky 12-02-2010 07:45 PM

7:56 left in the 1st quarter.

Slaton brings the kickoff back to the Texan 31.

Dump to Foster is dropped. 2nd and 10 coming up.

End around to AJ goes for about 8. Flag on the play. Facemask on Eagles +15. Puts the ball at the Eagles 47.

Schaub hits Leach for 21.

Flag on D Brown - false start. -5, Makes it 1st and 15.

Schaub to Foster for -2. Makes it 2nd and 17.

Foster for 3. 3rd and 14 coming up.

Pass to Dreessen caught out of bounds. Texans to go for the FG.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:49 PM

Rackers 48 yarder is good.

Eagles 7, Texans 3

chuck 12-02-2010 07:50 PM

Come on, D, let's go.

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 07:50 PM

Neil "Off The" Rackers salvages three points.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:51 PM

Very first Texan play - that screen to Foster (that he dropped) was set up nice. They gotta go back to that one, right?

My hopes for the D went out the window during pregame when they showed Okoye playing the Ray Lewis role and leading the unit in the chant/jump up and down in unison to get pumped up to play. If the best we got for a leader to pump up the troops before kickoff is Okoye, we're screwed.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:55 PM

Eagles bring the kickoff back to their 28. 4:55 left in the 1st.

McCoy gets 12. 1st down.

Fumble!!!. Eagles recover. Brings up 2nd and 11.

Vick scrambles for 7. 3rd and 4 coming up.

Pass to Jackson gets nice gainer. Ball at the Texan 32.

McCoy dodges for 2. 2nd and 8 coming up.

End around to Jackson goes for no gain. 3rd and 8 coming up.

Arky 12-02-2010 07:59 PM

On 3rd and 8, Vick scrambles for 10. 1st down.

Pollard breaks up the pass in the endzone. 2nd and 10 coming up.

McCoy runs for 13. 1st and goal at the 7.

End of the 1st quarter.

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 07:59 PM

Q: How many Texans does it take to tackle an Eagle?

A: Apparently more than eleven.

coloradodude 12-02-2010 07:59 PM

In reference to Mario sucking on the national screen...

Joe Theisman says, "that's lousy defensive end play" as Mario "single teamed" Williams watches the RB blow past him.

Yup. Geeze.

chuck 12-02-2010 08:03 PM

I would love to be the Eagles' OC right about now. There is virtually no play on your laminated sheet that will not work against this disgrace of a defense.

Arky 12-02-2010 08:03 PM

Pass to McCoy at the sideline goes for 2. 2nd and goal from the 5.

McCoy runs it in for the TD.

Eagles 14, Texans 3

Good lord, didya see that arm-bar on a Texan on the replay?

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 08:04 PM

Bush league defense...

chuck 12-02-2010 08:06 PM

That was just laughably bad. WTF is Okoye doing standing in the end zone doing nothing as the RB scores? Where are the LBs? Where are the safeties?

chuck 12-02-2010 08:07 PM

This is going to be like that Sunday night game in Seattle years ago when they ran for more than 500 yards on the Texans. This is going to be a humiliating ass whipping that shows this team for poorly led joke that it surely is.

HPF Bob 12-02-2010 08:09 PM

They're saving their strength so they can get ass-raped by the Ravens in about ten days.

Arky 12-02-2010 08:09 PM

14:30 left in the half.

Slaton brings the kickoff back to the Texan 21.

Foster for 8.

Foster for 3. 1st down.

Schaub can't find anyone open and chunks it out of bounds. 2nd and 10 coming up.

Pass is behind Dreessen inc. 3rd and 10 coming up.

Schaub hit as he passes, inc. Texans to punt.

Punt rolls to the Eagles 32. Eagles ball.
