For quite a few years we had a guy like Sammy Watkins, a freak athletic WR who on a couple plays in a game could make the difference between a win or loss that day.

I think they were outcoached. The first-half plan was clearly a) isolate the RB on Simon (51) and test Kevin Johnson (30). We didn't adjust to that soon enough. And the Bills definitely had the right play call on the winning touchdown.

Our 3 bugaboos that show up when we lose returned again: a) too many penalties, b) special teams failures, c) too many dropped passes. It was amazing we were still tied late in the game despite all that.

It is on O'Brien to the degree that he makes personnel decisions. When you are counting on Hoyer, Washington, Shorts, Grimes and Polk as key 4th quarter guys, you shouldn't be winning games at all.

I do think that there was an element of being outcoached in the first quarter. But at least they made some adjustments.

Hopkins is a talented receiver but with certain limitations, since he's not the athletic freak that Watkins is or that Andre Johnson was 6 or 7 years ago.
The best of team defenses will lose some battles against elite skill position
athletes that will result in game losses now and then.

Yea you are certainly right there because to a large extent it's probably on O'Brien that he's only got mediocre talent at key positions, especially at QB.
