Shoot, I was kind of hoping for Ogbonnaya.

Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE these compensatory picks? In a sense, isn't the NFL penalizing some teams because an individual team couldn't or chose not to re-sign one of their players? For example, why should some of our picks be lower or valued less because the Titans were cheap or let a player walk? I just don't get it and think it's a horrible rule. If they're going to give out compensatory picks, they should all come after Rd.7 of the normal draft order.

There goes the Tennessee State big back. We better not be hurting for a back next season.

Roy P 04-26-2009 04:43 PM

Owww. Javarris Williams comes off the board :(

I guess the Chiefs take this years BGE from me. Isn't that the same guy who was with the Patriots last year?

Hmmm...where iss our RB. All this talk about getting a RB someone to push the pile, to improve our red zone and split carries with Slaton. I don't think it was a smoke screen. Yet we passed on Rashad Jennings in the sixth, an excellent value.

Whats up with Jennings anyway, teams are avoiding him like the plague. Crazy. I know he has some ball security issues, but other backs had ball security issues and they got picked.

I wonder how much money I could have won betting that Javarris would get drafted BEFORE Rashad Jennings.

How about Gartrell Johnson getting picked before Jennings? Draft Tek didn't have him getting drafted at all.

TexanJedi 04-26-2009 04:54 PM

Looking back at our "Visits" thread. I see Barwin and Casey listed. But the interesting thing was the only back listed (rumored at the combine a while back) was Andre Brown. Are they serious about getting a back or was that misdirection?

RBs to watch for....

Brandon Mason - Stony Brook
Herb Donaldson - Western Illinois
Rodney Ferguson - New Mexico
Tyler Roehl - North Dakota State
Kyle Bell - Colorado State
Josh Vaughan - Richmond
PJ Hill - Wisconsin
Arian Foster - Tennesee

I think Kubiak might get a couple of these as UDFAs.

Another DB. I hope younger Gibbs can do something with them, but while I know it's a 7th rounder, I am not impressed.

Why not C.J. Spillman?

Nconroe 04-26-2009 05:22 PM

Rashad Jennings must of really messed up, lot of teams had him pretty high on their board. Hope he gets a chance as UDFA I think.

popanot 04-26-2009 05:24 PM

For the average fan such as myself who really doesn't follow college football or player scouting all that much, I have to say (IMHO) that that was one bizzare second day for the Texans. I guess they have a plan, but I sure as hell I can't see what it is yet. Lots of question marks with where those players fit into the scheme and our long-term plans. And in the short-term, how they improve us for '10. I guess it all hinges upon Cushing and Barwin, though.

TexanJedi 04-26-2009 05:25 PM

I was looking at McLain's blog and he claims the backs the Texans wanted were Shonn Greene (65 overall to NYJ) and Glen Coffee (74 overall to SF). It could be a blessing in disguise since I think Caldwell will become a mainstay. And who knows what back gets cut between now and training camp.

Nconroe 04-26-2009 05:29 PM

As another just average fan, I guess I was ok thru 4th round. Guess after that usually not to much anyway as expectation. If first three picks work out great, we should be better soon.

popanot 04-26-2009 05:38 PM

I do like the Caldwell pick. I just think it will take him a year or two before he's ready. But then again, they threw Brown into the fire and he did OK. I can't say I really dislike any of their other picks. I just don't fully see the big picture with those guys yet. Maybe that will clear up in the coming weeks and in TC. I thought for sure we'd come away with another OL and LB, and certainly a RB.

I have watched Antoine most of his career at "Bama and he is strong and very smart. I would kind of be surprised if he did not force Myers or Briesel to the bench early.

To me, Day 2 has been defined with the Casey selection. A great pick, a great fit, and a verrrrryyy interesting sitch as the team deals with Owen Daniels' contract, having just re-signed Dreesen for three more years.

Time will tell how RB will be addressed. A trade before training camp would not surprise me at all. Just a question as to the target and the compensation.

TexanJedi 04-26-2009 06:18 PM

I can only laugh, the Jags take a flier on Rashad Jennings in the 7th.
