By the way, how typical is it that the team has thrown all sorts of picks at the WR position and the best receiver on the team not named Deandre is a guy they signed off the street?

Despite some egregious clock management issues and some typically terrible play calling, I thought the game plan was more or less exactly what it needed to be. Play action worked great, the roll outs were great and I'd like to see more of them, you can do a lot with the split back sets and I'd like to see them use that formation more both for pass protection and for rushing plays. Other than the first possession we didn't see much running towards the sideline, and I think with Watson's legs you can use an option pitch out of the split back set to great effect once or twice a game.

In a similar concept to isn't it amazing how much smarter your father gets as you go from 17 to 25, isn't it amazing how much better the OL gets when you employ a decent game plan? Sure NE's front seven is at best nothing special, but still.

The bad news is the team's secondary is horrific. The good news is most teams don't have Tom Brady to exploit it.

First we ran it for a TD to Miller, and then it wasn't from split backs, but they definitely added the speed option this week. Bill O'Brien the most vanilla play caller of the past 3 years is going speed option to a WR coming on a reverse.

Maybe OB is a 'genius' in very specific circumstances like when he has a good QB. I guess this makes him like everyone else in the NFL.

Foreman goes left side for 15.

Foreman for 2.

Foreman gets 2 more. Brings up 3rd and 6.

Oooph, pass too long for L Miller. Texans going for the FG.

Fairbairn's 40-yarder is good!

Texans 47, Titans 14

8:39 left in the game.

Arky 10-01-2017 02:34 PM

The ensuing kickoff is a touchback. Titan's ball at their 25.

Pick 6 by Cole!

LOL, WTF is going on.... did I inhale some mushroom vapor working in the yard?.....

Big Texas 10-01-2017 02:37 PM

Get Watson, Hopkins, Watt, and Fuller out now...

barrett 10-01-2017 02:39 PM

Watson is in his 3rd start and already scored 50. Something that David Carr, Tony Banks, Dave Ragone, Matt Schaub, Sage Rosenfels, TJ Yates, Matt Leinhart, Case Keenum, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett, Brian Hoyer, Brandon Weeden, Brock Osweiller, and Tom Savage couldn't do.

chuck 10-01-2017 02:39 PM

They've run a couple of pitch outs, effectively, but haven't really used the split back formation more than a time or two. Maybe they thought they'd put too much of it on film. Who cares, we've hung 50+ on these fools.

I've been half watching the Cowboys-Rams game. As bad as Goff was at first, and he was horrible as a rookie, he's pretty good now. Hell, they're thinking about beating the Cowboys in Arlington and going 3-1. Anyway, that's sort of what I expected from Deshaun. I thought he'd be bad at first and hopefully he'd develop into something decent later. Welp.

barrett 10-01-2017 02:40 PM

While the positive vibes are flowing I want to ask if anyone still wants to argue with me about whether spending a high draft pick on a QB is a good idea?

It's like talented guys have a better chance to develop into good starting QBs. And like talented guys have a better chance to develop with a coach not named Jeff Fisher.

Arky 10-01-2017 02:44 PM

The ensuing kickoff is brought back by Jackson to the 20 or so but flags are down.....holding on the Titans, roughing on the Texans, offsetting, ball ends up at the Titan 3 yard line. Titan's ball.

------------------------------------------------

Henry for 2.

Henry for no gain. 3rd and 8 coming up.

Pass to Walker gets 9 and the 1st down.

Pass to Decker gets 7.

Clowney with the strip sack! Texan's recover! Texan's ball at the Titan 15!

5:50 left in the game.

barrett 10-01-2017 02:46 PM

And there's Tom Savage holding the ball waaayyy too long. I wonder if his agent makes comments after the game about how he deserves to start.

Arky 10-01-2017 02:48 PM

60-burger...

-------------------------------------------------

Savage in at QB.

Foreman for no gain.

Savage is sacked. Loss of 8.

On 3rd and 18, Blue goes for 8. Texans going for the FG.

Fairbairn's 33-yarder is good.

Texans 57, Titans 14

3:34 left in the game.

Arky 10-01-2017 02:52 PM

The ensuing kickoff is a touchback. Titan's ball at their 25.

--------------------------------------------

Henry for no gain.

Cassel sacked by Cole! Loss of 1.

On 3rd and 11, pass is caught but out of bounds so inc. Titans have to punt.

Punt is returned for no gain by Thompson. Texan's ball.

2:06 left in the game.

Arky 10-01-2017 02:59 PM

Ball at the Texans 26.

Blue for 5.

2 minute warning.

-------------------------------------------

On 2nd and 5, Blue gets 1.

Blue gets stopped on 3rd down. Texans to punt.

Punt is downed by the Texans at the Titan 9. Titan's ball.

16 seconds left in the game.

--------------------------------------------

Titans run a play and the clock runs out.

Final score:

Texans 57, Titans 14

Well, the tricky part is getting it right..... I think they may have gotten it right...

I agree it's hard to get right when you pick one.

But it's impossible to get right if you don't even try.

That's true. Or you could fill the time with journeyman backups until you find the one you like.....

That's not a great idea, but it's not the worst idea unless you pay one of those journeymen $72 million and then have to spend a 2nd round pick to get rid of him.

I used to gamble a bit (still do but not with real money). One philosophy was you have to play (bet) in order to win (cash). Another philosophy was "I'm not playing so I don't lose". See the conundrum?

So you're saying in the NFL you either get a QB or you fold your franchise because it's pointless to play? I agree.

Good. It would be pointless to get a QB unless he's a good one....cause there's plenty of doggy 1st round QB's in the league.... Your committing at least a couple of years to finding out what you got..... What Watson is doing is rare as hen's teeth...

chuck 10-01-2017 03:52 PM

You don't have to fold your franchise, you can just sit back and watch 80,000 people a week stream in regardless of the product you offer.

I'm just glad that Deshaun is going to continue my unrivaled run of spectacular failure in predicting who will and who will not be a good NFL quarterback. And I was laughing my ass off when Tom "Cement Shoes" Savage came in and immediately chiseled himself into a statue sack.

The news around the league gets better and better. Cowboys lose, Pats lose, Jags lose. Titans lose. Colts going to lose. I don't even know who they're playing but they're going to lose.

nunusguy 10-01-2017 05:03 PM

A really outstanding performance today by the offense in particular, what a satisfying win.

Are you really defending the Texans' handling of the QB position in the last 4 years? Really? Could you possibly be so Pollyanna to convince yourself that Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett, Brian Hoyer, Brandon Weeden, Brock Osweiller, and Tom Savage was a reasonable way to spend the last 3 years?

"Doesn't matter, Brian. AFC South champs 2 years in a row, Brian...."

You make it sound like Deshaun Watson's grow on trees....

Early line has the Chiefs as a 1½ pt. favorite over the Texans next Sunday night..

That defense is no joke...

The offense love to throw the ball...

Sounds like the makings of a tough game for us...

Our back end is still very suspect and our front seven can get okie doked with creative playcalling...

I hope OBrien can bring it because this one may be a shoot out...

Yes, we get to watch them (KC) on MNF tomorrow. I assume OB will be watching.....

Chiefs rated in the top 3 in most the power rankings. Only undefeated team left at 3-0.... Just hope the Texans don't have a let-down game from such a nice win - can't let the newspapers/chatter go to their heads.....

nunusguy 10-02-2017 10:05 AM

I'll be pulling for the Chiefs tonight and hope they win by a large margin, remain unbeaten, and therefor perhaps come into NRG next Sunday night fat, sassy, and confidant of their invincability.
