Kickoff is downed by Demps....
Halftime. Score remains: Texans 20, Jags 10 |
Greetings from the Austin Sam's Boat
Well, we spotted the Jags a 7-0 lead and have since dominated, 20-3. Obviously, the worry is over the QB position but Yates showed a lot of moxie in his short appearance. Expect us to run a lot and shorten the game in the second half. If the defense can keep Gary Coleman from running wild on them the second half, I think we can hold onto that 10-pt lead. We just need to keep from having to ask Yates to make plays for us and we ought to be okay. |
Halftime stats:
Passing: Leinart 10/13, 57 yards, 1 TD..... Yates 3/6, 39 yards Rushing: Foster 12/62, Tate 2/10 Receiving: OD 3/28, Foster 5/18, KW 2/15 Tackles: Barwin 4, Cush/GQ 3 each, Cody/Ryans/Allen/Jamison/Watt 2 each Time of possession: Texans 14:57, Jags 15:03 3rd down efficiency: Texans 2/7, Jags 2/9 Red zone: Texans 1/2, Jags 0/1 Total yards: Texans 168, Jags 144 Penalties: Texans 2/20, Jags 0/0 Turnovers: Texans 1, Jags 2 |

Incidentally, since when is it intentional grounding to chuck one into the end zone seats? I thought you could do that regardless of whether you are in the tackle box as long as the throw reached the line of scrimmage.

Whew. Lotta injuries.

Bittersweet win. Earliest we've ever been to eight wins, that's for sure. But we're in a rough patch at our quarterback and you can see how well the running game works without the threat of a pass.
I doubt Yates has been fed much of the playbook or had many reps so let's see what his learning curve is like. I thought Yates was just slow reacting in several situations and could be much better once his brain gets used to the speed of the game. Let's at least acknowledge what a change it is to rely on the defense to win a game instead of what it was like last year. But we definitely need to get Yates used to some bootlegs and play actions before next week. |
I thought T.J. for being a rookie, and not having had many reps, did pretty well

I Like Yates, but I do not see him winning in the playoffs yet either. If Leinart is out for any amount of time then go sign Jeff Garcia and get him into the meetings and on the practice field now. |

GEEZ. |
I keep holding up San Diego as an example of who the Texans might play in the first round. I guess I should quit doing that.

You gotta believe in St. Timothy The Inaccurate. He actually had a decent game throwing but it was others who made the big plays in OT for the most part. The funny thing is he won at Florida with superior talent and, in Denver, he's winning with inferior talent which is actually more fascinating.

QB is the only position that gets judged almost solely by wins and losses. You never here a DL with no sacks get talked up because he "just wins." You never here a Defense that can't stop anyone get talked up because the offense won a shootout (even if the D got a goalline stand in the end). Everybody but the QB gets judged by how they play. The QB gets too much blame when they lose and too much credit when they win.
Mark Sanchez was that guy the last two years. They won with defense and a running game in spite of him. This year they put more on him and lost more. Vince Young was that guy before. Remember when he was magical and the team just played harder/better when he was in? Except when they didn't. Tebow is quarterbacking a team that gives up 10 ppg. There are about 50 NFL QBs that would win when the Defense gives up 10 ppg. Leinhart/Yates can win in those circumstances. That defense is winning in spite of him. In games they finished this year that team scored more with Orton that Tebow. They just started playing Defense and running the ball (a John Fox trademark and something they hadn't done the last year and a half). Von Miller is the unquestioned MVP of that team. |
