Sirius radio reported this morning that the team and Demeco are negotiating an extension. I havent seen this anywhere else yet though.

I cant think that anyone would have a problem with paying him after the seasons he has had. He definatly deserves it and it will be nice to have him locked in long term.

He is signed through 2009, but extensions let the team spread the signing bonus over a longer period of time.

You can never predict injuries and that is always a variable dark cloud when signing somone early. However, Demeco is a guy that you would not worry about giving the extension to, like they did with AJ a few years ago, you did not worry about AJ the person or player. Same goes for Demeco. Demeco is a leader and will work just as hard with the new contract. I would not be against that versus letting him test the market or getting into the contentous franchise tag slapped on him.

If the deal makes sense for the team maybe a little less $ if he signs now, and it gives Demeco the long term security then I am all for it.

I would also consider Demeco a very low risk guy to sign to an extension. At this point in his career the longer we wait the more its going to cost. You hope that you don't run into an urlacher situation where what looked like a very good deal a few years ago is no longer impressive compared to the going rate....I think Demeco and the Texans would get that sorted out long before it got into a holdout situation....exactly like it sound like they are doing here.

Two words: Domanick Davis.

or possibly three: Domanick Davis-Williams.

always a risk. I think the difference here is between a guy who could be a solid piece of the puzzle for a few years (davis), and a guy who is, or likely will be, one of the best at his position for years to come.....if the injury bug stays away. MLB's take a lot of pounding, but they don't have as short of a lifespan as a RB.

Given the uncertainty of an uncapped year, I would just go ahead and do it now.

Difference in DD-W and Ryans is that a LB can play with less foot speed than a RB.

Plus Mike LB can be placed in other positions if their legs get hurt. Look Ryans was playing on one leg this year and we did not know.

A much safer extension than a RB.

DDW and Demeco are two differnt players. DDW wussed out and didnt want to play hurt. Demeco has to be pulled kicking and screaming off the field even to give other guys reps.

He should have gone to the pro bowl his rookie year, he went last year, and will most likely go again this year and next. With a better LB corps and secondary he will probably get some decent sack numbers to add to his super tackle totals.

Extending him now makes sense. It will be cheaper in the long run. Also I dont think that Demeco is the type of guy that would try to redo his contract every 2-3 years if he is locked in for 5-6 with a good deal at the time it was made.

i hope the contract terms are "for life, however much you want demeco just as long as your whole career is here"

Are you satisfied now, Teddy? Because I can keep busting you up all night if you like.

"He check check check check....he trap me!"

Hopefully DeMeco doesn't trap the Texans. But yeah, give him whatever the hell he wants.

Demeco Ryans proved one thing beyond the shadow of a doubt...a very good LB is just draft pick away if the scouts know what to look for.

The extension is a good thing verses the franchise tag later.

Good for DeMeco, and good for the Texans.

Good for DeMeco, and good for the Texans.

You have to step up and pay this man. He most likely will be our first retired jersey, unless AJ beats him to it.
